If the Ducks were gonna give up near that much Eichel would have been traded months ago

Yup. Keep the cap space and continue to build.

That much?

No zegras
No McTavish
No Drysdale
No 2022 1st.

It's a bad trade for buffalo, but time to move on

2 million dollar difference in cap space and Eichel's 24 years old

Sorry, completely my bad that I fired that off with only half a thought...basically what I meant was "Keep the cap space and the 5 cheap assets who are 22 and under (This includes the 2 picks).

This isn't meant as a slight towards Eichel, or towards his value to Sabres fans, but this would be a franchise altering move that leaves the team with zero depth, not much coming through the system, and pushes the rebuild back even further.

You kept your 4 best assets and gained a 24 year old elite center under contract long term. Any trade this year will recoup assets too if you aren't competing

Sure, but you're left with:

Black hole-Eichel-Terry
Black hole-Zegras-Silf
Jones-McTavish-Black hole
Filler-BO-Grant

Forward prospects still in the system after this: Pastujov, and whatever you get with the 2022 pick.

That's a pretty f*cking horrible lineup, and would bank on everything going right in a free agent class that isn't very good. I'd also argue that the roster at this very moment is stronger than this, and it ain't that strong to begin with.

Teams that try to rush rebuilds with franchise altering trades rarely come out on the winning side. Draft. Develop. Add when the team is ready.

Los Angeles won't be trading Jonathan Quick for a fifth, or a fourth, or a third.

They should. He's the clear backup making almost 6 million a year on a team that will want to spend
