If Rossi isn't ready this makes sense for the Wild. Friedman mentioned that Larkin will be a UFA before Detroit is any good, so would they be willing to move him?

i don't think it's enough to move the needle for detroit. two years at half retained would warrant boldy instead of a second rounder IMO

Reasons why Dylan won't be moved unless he asks the Illitches to let him go:

1. DET doesn't trade its captains. They've had 3 in 38 years for that reason.
2. DL is a hometown kid. Play in LIttle Caesars, and at U of M.
3. The Wings and Tigers are run as a family business. There is more than just the product on the ice. Community connection and marketing are huge.
4. DET has to become competitive, they have to pay for that stadium.
5. Unless DL asks to leave, DET will resign him.
6. That trade is garbage. MIN (and anyone else) would have to significantly overpay, even if DL asked to be traded. Yzerman knows what he's doing.

While it's true Detroit won't likely make the playoffs before Larkin is a UFA, eventually you need to start keeping your players to have veterans to teach the younger players. I don't see why they wouldn't get him signed to a long-term extension next summer and keep him. He's only 25 and a great player that they could continue to build around.

Everything in this statement is spot on. You would have to start the conversation with boldy or rossi or both to warrant any desire to trade Larkin. Adding in retention would just make it that much more.

Larkin won't get moved, that's not enough to pry him from Detroit, especially with 50% retention and on top of that Minnesota will be just fine at center with some patience

I’d argue that this only makes sense IF Rossi is ready to go…

I think Larkin would have to be unwilling to extend before he's traded. If he refused to extend, you're not getting Boldy and Rossi (and certainly not both lol) though. That's not the way trades work in real life. Look at what Duchene brought in for the Avs, that's a realistic starting point. Minus the #4 overall pick because that was purely luck the pick ended up being that.

laugh laugh You can't be serious? We retain 50% on our hometown Captain. For basically a cap dump in Rask and futures. No freaking way you're getting Larkin without Rossi being involved and fat chance he'd ever sign long term anyways with Minnesota. He's already said that he wants to be a career Red Wing he's not going anywhere. 30 other NHL teams would easily blow away this offer. Who freaking cares what Friedman says Yzerman was 32 years old when Detroit won it's first cup and was with the team for 14 years. Larkin just turned 25 2 1/2 months ago he still has 7 more years until he's in the same position as Yzerman. And Yzerman already said that Larkin is one of the untouchables along with Raymond and Seider. Larkin sure as hell would cost far more then your offer..

laugh Who freaking cares what Duchene got? You're talking over 7 years ago or so if not more. You sure as hell aren't getting Larkin for 2 years at 50% retention without one of Boldy or Rossi being available. For that OP is a royal joke and nowhere near Larkins value.

Please clear something up for me you said:

"you're not getting Boldy and Rossi (and certainly not both lol) "

Did you mean Boldy or Rossi? By saying Boldy and Rossi that infers together making this redundant "(and certainly not both lol)"

It's the most recent time a top 6 center has been traded for a package and Duchene in 2017 is absolutely a comparable player to Larkin in 2021 in ability. The remaining term is the same and player's status as a UFA at the end is also the same, so it makes the most sense to draw a comparison to.

Feel free to give a better comparison to use.

As a Wild fan, I both love and hate this deal. In a vacuum, it'd be great to get Larkin for cheap. But on the flipside, Rossi shouldn't need too much time, and we need to keep as many futures as possible. We're not one piece away; we're several pieces away.
