I agree that Kaut can still become an effective NHL'er. Sakic needs to be in win-now mode though while Mackinnon's contract is still cheap, and Kaut is an obvious trade chip. I'd love if our 4th line could be a monster to play against, which it would be with Crouse and O'Connor forechecking together.

Even if Kadri bounces back I'd still push for a Hertl trade. Kadri-Jost is pretty weak center depth compared to a lot of teams in the east like NYI, Tampa, and Carolina. Also need to keep Hertl away from Vegas.

Crouse sucks. He has a career best 5v5 corsi of 47.5. He has never had a a positive net xGD in his career, he sucks massively, bro you need to get past the height and weight thing.

I get that! but I will bet you whoever has Hertl at the end of this season will have him starting next year.
meaning you snooze you loose.

And what odds are you laying? He will get one opportunity to pick where he lives and works basically for the balance of his career.

he's at worst your #4 more likely he would be your #3 forward. with this group around him he would be set up to flourish and excel instead of carrying middle 6 guys on a top line.

Did you forget about makar, and he’s not better than landeskog. Like I said he would be the 5th or 6th best player on the avs, when you have guys like toews byram and girard in the mix too. That’s just a statement of the avs top end deity not a knock against him

But his bloated next contract , he won’t have anyone to play with bc the avs are too too heavy,

We all know Joe doesn't go big-game hunting in UFA because you always overpay. Neither Hertl nor Forsberg are coming to the Avs if they hit UFA.

That’s a bold face lie, he tried on Tavares and panarin

Trading newhook

I agree I wouldn't give up Newhook he has the potential as good or better than Hertl.

Add at the deadline for a 2nd winger. Right shot lw preferred. You can obtain that without Newhook

Would rather pick up rackell or kessel before a Newhook trade

I would pay a lot for Hertl, but it would have to come together without Newhook, Byram, and maybe even Barron. Something like Olausson, Helleson/Bowers, and a 1st would be about it. Maybe that even gets it done if Hertl is willing to flex his trade protection. We'll have to wait and see. Lots of unknowns here.

Dude, you can point out an error without calling someone a liar.

There's a difference between trying and doing what it takes and he wasn't going to go where those guys wanted to go in terms of either money or years or both (plus, those guys probably didn't want to be in Colorado). He almost didn't get Landy back, he let Grubauer go, he let Saad go. His big gets are in trades, not in UFA.

He offered Panarin the most money and in less term, 4 years over 11m aav, he was close to signing in Colorado but he wanted to go to New York more. He did more than what it takes on one of the biggest UFAs available in years.

but he didnt let Landy go, he had the advantage of time and got the deal done before he went to UFA. And Grubi they didnt want him back, he said it himself that the negotiations didnt feel like real ones. They weren't sold on brining him back and weren't pushing hard to meet his demands.

It was no disrespect, it was just a figure of speech. Sorry if it offended you.

All im saying is that he tried going after big UFA names in the past, its a he never does it move. We dont know all the big UFAs he has tried to sign either. Who knows maybe he checked in on Peitroangleo, maybe he checked in on this guy, UFAs have to have interest in coming as well. I do agree he gets his additions through trades more than signings, but hes not prone to throwing out the big offer

There's a lot that goes into it for sure but it seems like Joe doesn't want to bring in these guys that are in their late 20's and looking to cash in on one last big deal. Maybe that will change this year but the Avs haven't, for many reasons, landed a big-time UFA in a very long time.

I wouldn't do it as it hurts you after this season, hertl is a great add but not at that cost... the avs one of the top scoring teams in the league and you want to trade away a top prospect for more scoring?

You sign hertl to 6x7.5 and you lose bura, kadri, and nish which is your entire second line.. aj hefele said he was in phx at the rookie camp and talked to a scout who was saying how far oulauson still has to go before he's nhl ready.. so your second line becomes hertl, ranta, O'Connor/bowers.

Then you have the task of replacing kuemper who I assume won't be signing for less than the 4.5 he's already making, and then you have to look another year in the future and see you have to sign mackinnon, byram, ranta, jost...

In my opinion it turns a 5 year window into a 1 year window

Do you really think Avs would just let Burakovsky, Kadri, and Nichuskin walk in free agency without replacing them? Next years UFA forward group looks pretty decent (even though it's still early) so there will likely be plenty of options.

It's also far easier to build a decent 2nd line around a high-end center than cheaping out on your center to spend high on wingers. Pittsburgh the last decade with Crosby/Malkin is a great example of that, and Detroit with Zetterberg/Datsyuk before that.

As I just stated he would be playing with middle to bottom 6 players in colorado

What's the problem with a 2C playing with middle 6 players? Isn't that by definition what all 2C's do?

Lol, I didn't realise I had a thing for height and weight tears of joy

Note that the title of this AGM is tongue-in-cheek. I'm not sure Crouse would be a need, probably better to fill that spot with a good PK'er instead of just a guy who hits. Avs are also notorious for going after players with good analytics which as you pointed out likely rules him out.

A winger would certainly be cheaper, but the top teams in the East who we'll need to beat in the finals (Tampa/Carolina/Florida/NYI) all have good or great center depth, so for the Avs to lock down the center head-to-head battle it could be shrewd to upgrade the 2C spot (and push Kadri to 3C).

Good point on the NTC. Hertl could very easily give San Jose only one choice of trade partner if he selects 2 teams who won't be buyers at the deadline, effectively doing what Taylor Hall did last year to enable Boston to get him cheaper than expected. Hopefully if he does that it's to the Avs benefit rather than Vegas.

I think you are concerning yourself on what other teams may or may not do. You dont have to go out of your way to try to "steal" a player they want to trade for. Let them conduct their business. Sakic and Avs will do the right deal at the right price to fit their needs, not try to block other teams from adding players by going out of their way to get them first

?, you're losing burakovsky and nish as wingers because you cannot afford them now, why would you all of a sudden have money for their replacements in UFA?

I think a better example is McDavid and draisaitl.. or mathews and tavares.. for every example of teams where a great 1 and 2 centre combo worked there is plenty more that didn't..

Remember stastny, duchene, O'Reilly...

It has nothing to do with who is playing centre on your top to lines, and everything to do with the chemistry and build of your top 2 lines..

Hertl is a good player but would you rather have hertl at 7.5 or newhook and a 6.5 milk winger? Easy choice for me
