Easily a top 5 RHD in the game. He is and will be worth his money. Huge win for Boston. Makar and Fox have yet to prove. Especially in terms of playing in their own zone. Especially, considering the fact that this is a third contract for Charlie.

People just look at the points and assume he's a tier below Fox and Makar, when in reality he's just as good. He was held off of the Bruins' PP1 unit for years by Krug so he didn't have the opportunities to rack up points, despite being an elite two-way defenseman at even strength and an excellent penalty killer.

Fox is excellent in his own zone, and Makar isn't a sieve either. Just because they rack up points and are under 6'0" doesn't mean they're poor defensively.

Avs locked up Makar for less and I don't think anyone will try to claim McAvoy as a better player, our will be a better player at any point over next 8 seasons. Great term. $1M too much AAV.

Depends on how you look at it. If you take Bergerons CH% when he signed his deal 8yrs ago, it comes out to $8.7 million. It's tough to compare money for a guy who signed today vs a guy from 3,5,8 years ago.

For folks comparing this to Makar's contract, it's an unfair comparison. This contract buys out WAY more UFA seasons. Makar's deal bought out two UFA years; McAvoy's deal buys out 5 UFA seasons, IIRC. It's a very good contract, especially when you consider that Werenski got more for less years!

Except that McAvoy is actually worth a Seth Jones pact. Even if you toss analytics in the toilet, Chahlie Mac will be far younger when his deal expires, meaning that the deal will be throughout his prime defensive years.

As a Leafs fan, it gives me a lot of joy knowing that the Bruins are no longer massively underpaying their star players.

It is a good contract. Pulock is great but not at McAvoy's level.

People are saying this is an over payment but imo CM is a top 5 dman in the league. He's a very complete defender... hard to name any defense men that i would rather have on my team over him

i said the same thing... i can maybe name 3 -4 guys in the entire league that are comparable defensemen.... not even better just comparable

One of the best d men currently in the league. Will be contending with Makar for years to come as the top. I see nothing to complain about here.

The salary cap has really screwed up how people view players. Everyone expects their elite players to take discounts.

It's probably not a terrible contract but I'm surprised he was able to get this much without being a good pp qb. His es scoring is good, but his pp production is poor which keeps him in the 30-45 point range and generally people get paid more for offense than other.

I would have expected more in the Ekblad/Heiskanen range of about 10.5% of cap ceiling than the 11.5% he got.

I think mid to high 8s would have been a good deal, so this one is okay towards an over pay that isn't to big a deal because it's not a crazy overpay and he is a damn good player.
