Holy overpay!! Adam Fox must be salivating and eager to sign his next contract…

"The best defenseman in the league must be thrilled that a top 5 defenseman in this league is making this money"

Well, sure..?

You could pay Adam Fox 11m and come out with a good deal. How many players making this money or above are actually better than McAvoy? I'd say Stone, Kucherov, Eichel, Matthews, Panarin and McDavid. That's 6/20. Maybe Vasilievsky..? So a third?

I just don't.. I don't understand how this is a bad contract unless you compare it with an incredibly good contract. Nurse and Jones are making this type of money soon. In a world where people are massively overpaying young RHD, paying one accordingly seems pretty fine to me.

What if I told you that McAvoy's CH% is very similar to what Bergeron signed 8yrs ago.

I'd say you didn't mention the specific numbers on purpose, because they aren't "very similar", it's a full percentage point higher.

McAvoy 11.66%
Bergeron 10.66%.

The cap when Bergeron signed was $64.3MM, but if it was $81.5MM, his AAV would have been $8,687,900 or $812,100 less than McAvoy, That is a difference that is even greater than the league minimum salary of $750K

Ya 800k isn't a huge difference when talking multi million dollar deals. I still stand by they are very similar CH%'s....because they are

Its really not an overpay. McAvoy is a top 10 Dman in the league, probably even top 5

I mean ehhhh, that’s a little much, he shouldn’t be making more then Makar, especially on an 8 year term. Whatever though. Fox is going to be a very wealthy man.

He got paid more than Makar BECAUSE its an 8 year term.
McAvoy will be 31 and 32 at the end of this deal. Still likely prime years. Higher AAV to buy those extra years

It's a dig on the Leafs while showing that it's not an insignificant amount of money, as you are trying to pretend it is. It's equal to 9% of Bergeron's contract.

Again 800k when talking multi-million dollar contracts is nothing. Your example isn't talking about multi-million deals, just a team that's awful with their cap. How many impact players are making 800k

Ridiculous homer take. McAvoy should have signed for $10.3MM, since it's nothing. I'm done with this silliness.

What homer take? Lol, you started the silliness by trying to argue that 800k is a significant difference.

great dman and this contract isnt out of line with what other top dmen are getting- could be seen as a great deal compared to Jones and Nurses...
but i voted no- as this destroys the team cap that Boston had aced and their other stars are going to want bigger paydays when their contracts are up.

Does not destroy the team cap. Marchand and Hall have 4 years left each. Bergeron year to year if Boston is lucky and it will be team friendly deal. Pastrnak is the only star left to pay and he won't make more than McAvoy because that is the new bar. It's contracts like Folignio's, Reilly's, Forbort's, as aging/mediocre players that hurt and put them in a bind.
