In what world does any NHL team pay a 3rd for someone to take an expiring contract depth defenseman making under $2M at the trade deadline?

In a world where the team is getting a 4th back for a guy who is worth a 7th and change..

Is that just a matter of two of the most tradable assets in the same deal? would 2nd's get Rakell do you think?

I think if they move both of them, they’d be for separate deals. We’d also want a young player back, not a fringe NHL’er. It would make more sense if it were

To Anaheim:

Connor Zary
Nikita Zadorov
2022 1st

To Calgary

Rickard Rakell
Josh Manson

Something along that line

Fair enough, with both in the same deal Pitlick is more or less salary reasons on a one year deal. I don't mind what you put together above though. Would maybe try put a lesser prospect in there than Zary but I would probably do it if Rakell was going to re sign.

I think the Ducks would only get that much if Murray agrees to trade both with 50% retention. But I'd definitely accept that trade if I were Murray.
