If PIT is out at TDL

Created by: MNCountryClub
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 14, 2021
Published: Oct. 15, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This assumes MIN is in a playoff spot and PIT is not come TDL.

I could see BG making a move or two to bolster, but not a blockbuster that would further complicate the buyout years. I think this is a happy medium. Carter is a playoff monster and still has game. Wild need help scoring goals in Ploffs.
Trades
PIT
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (MIN)
  2. 2022 4th round pick (MIN)
Additional Details:
I actually think Carter could be traded for a bit more, but I’m just using his last trade as proxy

It would probably take a prospect and a 2nd or something like that

That was kinda my thought too. I tried to allude to that in the trade description details, but wasn’t entirely sure what fair value would be, so I just used a proxy.

Eh I wouldn’t get hung up on the line orders. MIN uses our 2nd as a shutdown line, but top 3 all get heavy minutes. Fiala needs a competent center, so as of now, he fits most naturally there. You can consider that our 2nd line, if it makes you feel better.

But the thing is dean e like Freddy. Also no way is Guerin trading picks in one of the better drafts in a long while. Also don't think Guerin will because he's made it clear he rather not trade prospects, or picks. The 2022 draft is supposed to be historic

I think adding either/both Beckman or Boldy would be more impactful than Carter. I wouldn’t get too hung up about where they play.

That’s optimistic, I’m not sure if I’d go that far myself. I’m not saying Guerin would actually go for Carter, but I think it’s pretty unlikely that Beckham or Boldy would be a more impactful playoff player than him. Carter is still pretty dang solid, and he’s a monster in postseason, which we all know is a different animal.

I don’t think it’s very likely Guerin would trade for Carter, but im not quite as certain he won’t make any type of move at all. Big splash? Prob not. But hardline no to anything and everything like you seem to suggest. I don’t think that’s necessarily true either.

Completely fair, and Carter’s playoff experience is precisely why we would go after a guy like him. I just don’t see this team as a true contender and rather that we should be a seller. And I think we can do that while making noise in the playoffs.

Carter, if his cost is something similar to what PIT paid, would be a solid move. Boldy gets healthy and finds his game.

Zucc/JEE/Kaprizov
Fiala/Carter/Boldy
Greenway/Sturm/Foligno
Hartman+ 2 guys

Or a heavier stacked lineup:
Fiala/Carter/Kaprizov-high scoring line
Greenway/JEE/Foligno-shutdown line
Boldy/Sturm/Zucc-energy line
Hartman+ 2 guys-grinder line

That I agree with. We’re too far away from being true contenders to really entertain any of these rental type moves. Tbh, I just watched the first couple of Pens games and was impressed with Carter, so this proposal is nothing more than shiny object effect for me.

If MN was sellers the only noise they would hear is either the sounds of the golf course, or the door hitting them on the way out of the 1st round.

Tbh, I kinda like both of those lineups. I think he could be an interesting piece to keep an eye on.

Let’s say we sell Greenway and replace him with Boldy and Sturm and replace him with Beckman closer to the TDL. That’s a net gain IMO. The big sale that could impact things is Fiala, but if you move him in season then the return is probably worth it.

Agreed, but if we have a monster season, resign him

Boldy already has a lineup spot waiting (Fiala's line). He's just injured and is being replaced by waiver fodder quality players. His game was the most complete and just needed the confidence to know he belongs in the NHL. He looked like he was ready for the being in the NHL step in his development; the NHL skills are there, he just needs the mental side to realize he belongs. The only way to get that is by playing at that level. I can see him bouncing between the AHL and NHL if he needs a confidence boost (outside of the injury recovery games he'll probably need).

Beckman can only shoot, nothing else about his game is close to NHL ready. He has potential, but he's very rough and needs to learn a lot.

Sturm really needs to get moved up in the lineup. He was 4th in goals last year, had the highest d-zone start rate, was a +10, etc. Losing him would hurt more than people realize.
