There is another way besides losing Monahan as well.

If Lucic agrees to waive his NMC and you include Zadorov cap works. Might have to throw in an extra prospect or two to make Buffalo bite the bullet but with Eichel who cares how many prospects you lose.

Buffalo is not going to retain any money for five years. If his deal weren’t so long you’d have a better chance.

I get what you are saying but I also see it being completely possible. With the cap expected to go up a lot over the next 3 years retaining less than league minimum to make means work should definitely be an option on the table

Toronto retained 1.2mil on Kessel for 7 years. Arizona is retaining 990k on OEL for 6 years. There are definitely crazier things out there, and recent precedents for retaining up to a mil for the last 5 years of this deal. Especially because Buffalo isn’t going to be good for 5 years, and will likely be a floor team for the duration of that.

I wouldn't say they wont be "good" for 5 years. I dont think they sit that far off from where Toronto was when they moved Kessel. Draft high this year and next, then Power comes up 2 years from now and they can probably start competing for a playoff spot in around 3-4.

Either way, as I said above the cap is expected to go up a little the next 2 years and a lot 3 years from now so 500k is fairly insignificant, especially since it wont be effecting most of Buffalo's ELC's

You forget that their management is horrendous lmao, if they hired a decent GM and let them have full control I’d agree with your assessment, but I’m fairly certain Kevyn Adams is just the Pegula’s mouthpiece. A good GM would have traded Eichel at the draft to extract maximum value. And yes I agree, 500k is insignificant regardless, even if they do get good in 3 or 4 years, look at Toronto, they’re making do with the 1.2mil hindrance, which is more of a dent in a smaller salary cap.

Dube >>>>>> Gudbranson, regardless of position, why would you make the trade worse then add retention on Eichel

You dont know what the offers were at the draft, how do you know the offers now are worse?

From what? My previous proposals? Multiple people said it was an overpay so this is a completely unrelated post. Where I gave the potential of 2 1sts in the conditions.

To summarize, stop comparing this to my previous posts

Poor take. The owner has made many poor decisions in his time owning the Sabres, but he hasn't been cheap.

When did anyone say its an overpay, and why would i not compare this to your other post and if were not comparing this to other posts, sabres pass, this deal is weak even without retention

What part is weak? Its pretty much the same package but with the potential of 2 1sts instead of 1 and Dube. My package from 2 months ago should definitely not be considered the norm now that the season has stsrted. Eichel at the very least is put until January

Picks are lottery tickets, Dube is in the NHL. Plus the only way they get 2 1sts is if the 2022 1st is 31 or 32 overall

You forget that their management is horrendous lmao... The Sabres made a great move signing Karmanos as "Associate GM". The trades were much after he came aboard. The other NHL GM's knew Adams was over his head and took advantage of him (Hall for a 2nd and Montour for a 3rd, should have been at least a 1st and 2nd). They knew this by the UFA's he signed and when he let Larsson walk.

Never said they were equal. Not sute how thats related at all. This may be all the Sabres get for Jack. If I were the Sabres GM I would ask for the 2023 2nd be conditional and make it the 2022 first without conditions.

Poor take. The owner has made many poor decisions in his time owning the Sabres, but he hasn't been cheap. You are correct when he first came to Buffalo and he built the Harbor center and over paid for the Bills. But there were reports that STL would have given more for O'Reilly if Buffalo paid the bonus and his terrible decision to fire all of the scouts and took other cost cutting measures. So initially I was all for Kim and Terry, lately not so much.
IMO a little light but may be what Buffalo gets.
I would definitely prefer the 2022 first and drop the conditions on the second.
Gudbranson does not fit into the Sabres future.
If the Sabres could flip Monahan for a first and second and Gudbranson for a fifth, then I think I would take it.
Two firsts (especially they were both in 2022), two seconds, fifth and Zary is not great, but it would end the Eichel saga.

The pegulas have been throwing good money after bad since they bought the team, and a lot of the bad decisions have been self inflicted. They did suddenly add 8 million to their internal cap when hall agreed to sign. But yes, they are getting sick of paying people to not work for them, especially on a losing team.

The day I posted that original trade concept was July 28th, its the middle of October and Eichel is both still a Sabre and still in need of surgery. We are dealing with a different situation now. I would still do that trade if push came to shove but I definitely think it is on the more expensive end of the spectrum now. The proposal in this thread is what I see as a more likely scenario in terms of the base return along with the general concept of the probable many conditions that will be involved with this trade.
