Not really good for the Rangers either...this year CAP is not a problem- but with Toffoli on the roster, they now have a boatload of guys to extend with around 17M....even if the CAP goes up next year, they will still be in a bind as Fox and Kakko will eat up a large chunk of the available cap...really the only moves involving Krav which make sense are trades where they get futures- picks and/or prospect(s) who- if they pan out- wont get paid until after Trouba and Kreider can be moved.

I wouldn't take Drury word for word there....of course he is saying that to please his boss...reality is they are COMING out of the rebuild. But because they are coming out of the rebuild, players are going to have to start getting paid. Right now Krav is the "easy" guy to move....but had this whole situation not unfolded, one or a few of Krav, Kakko, Miller, Fox, Chytl, and LaF would have to be moved at some point going forward. Of course this makes the Goodrow signing a head scratcher- but that's another argument in itself. So the idea of moving Krav for futures isn't really for rebuild purposes- but for CAP management purposes...and one thing necessary in the CAP era is the need to be able to replace good (yet expensive) players with players on ELCs and/or in RFA years.

Montreal was desperate tho. No team was willing to pay that return for Dvorak til KK news. You cant compare players value in a vacuum. And, Dvorak is a center.

Do I think Toffolo should get more? Yes.

Should they be gathering assets right away, and actually do a legit rebuild? Yes.

If they wait for the perfect offer then they become another Buffalo. Rebuilding is mostly about timing not value bargaining. You strip it all down to almost nil. Excellent next two drafts, and a young core to build around in MTL. I'd keep Gallagher around as he's too important for the culture of the team and I think he's the next captain if not for Suzuki being a factor.

Toffoli, Chiarot, Hoffman, Lehkonen, Allen should all be dealt at the deadline if they are well out of it! Funny enough, Ben Chiarot, he may get you the biggest return as physical defenceman are at a premium right now.
