Because? How often do you get a 30 goal scorer via trade?

penguins don't have cap space for MAF.
That's not changing at any point this season as they have other holes they need to fill in order to be a playoff team.

Cap space is optional as Tampa demonstrated last year/

yeah it's really not when Friedman and Ruhwedel are your teams idea of a 3RD.
They will be making a trade at some point for a RD, they will need cap space as they have none. They can't afford 3.5 million on a goalie.
    That's already set in stone.

Get another team to launder another 50%, where there’s a will… there’s a way. It’s not like the trade isn’t fair, can you really not afford a 1.750 mil goalie?

why would they keep pouring assets into a goalie that they don't want to spend.
They have made their choice at goalie. They have a lot of youth at goalie in the system.
    It's not a fit.
What cap they save on malkin, who's only out 2 months or so is going to end up poured into finding a RD at some point.
If they are lucky the might get 2-2.5 million on that. For a team that had like 100k in cap space, and has had to put him on LTIR to make the roster work to begin with.
So yeah, they really don't have the cap space.

yeah and he's their starter. and you can't move him down or he'll be claimed and that money will still count against the cap.

    They have moved on.

And if they would hypothetically bring back fleury then he would be the starter and jarry could go take a hike.

they aren't letting a good young goalie go for a 36-37 year old guy who's falling apart.
    That's your mess now.
Like I've said, they have moved on.
