Fair, and reasonable. However there should be a plan in place if he does. What is it?
Many bruins fans said Krejci would be back, but here we are today.
It's not even a matter of retiring. Bergeron has lost a lot of steps.
BOS fans will cry about someone saying that, but he's 36 years old, he's lost steps and that's a fact.
He's really good on one side of the ice though, mainly because he is good on the dot. If he can win the puck, they keep it in the zone, they place a cycle game and with the help he has, they produce. That's been true for a few years. As long as he's used that way he can still manage to be useful.
But there are realities that they need a real 1C again, a guy who can run up and down the ice with more than 4th line talent.
DK was washed, that was evident last year, and with Bergeron being limited it really showed.
BOS has to use their talent in the best way they can. They have been good about doing that, and it's a system that does work. But at the end of the day, if you want to beat BOS currently, Just run Bergeron north and south and then realize they don't have anything else at center.
Bergeron can win faceoffs for probably another 2-3 years. There isn't much to that skill in the ways of wear and tear. It's not like skating where your speed keeps dropping.
But at some point, if there is no help behind him, it's just a wasted effort. They need a real center who can bring a high end 2 way game. Because Bergeron just isn't gong to skate up and down the ice with the McDavids of the world. He doesn't have the legs for it.
