CHI
  1. Chiarot, Ben
Additional Details:
I feel like these guys are in similar situations where a change of scenery might help. If you think MTL deserves a 7th or 6th...fine. If you think CHI deserves a 7th or 6th...fine.
MTL
  1. De Haan, Calvin

2.
CHI
  1. Blomqvist, Joel [Reserve List]
PIT
  1. Strome, Dylan
Additional Details:
I’m torn about this trade. The PROs for PIT are huge IMO. Goalies can be found in ANY round. Heck Kevin Lankinen wasn’t even drafted….and for goalies it’s not unusual to be a 4th rounder…5th rounder…undrafted and still be a starter.

I was big on Blomqvist in the draft, so maybe.

I liked him too. The part that I especially like is that he can't jump ship after 4 year. The Hawks can still groom Commesso and keep Blomqvist in Europe for something down the road. The problem is that would require Bowman to plan for the future which is looking less and less like he'll be a part of.

Meh.

Not sure I'd do it. If we move Chiarot, it's for futures at the deadline or for a short term 3C. If not, he's an important leader for this team and is a good defenseman when he allows himself to.

Fair enough. I appreciate the feed back. He was pretty dang good in the playoff run last year imo. I just see a bunch of MTL posts trading him, so I thought I'd see what's up.

He's a polarizing defenseman among Habs fans, but some don't understand how important he is for a team aiming for a playoffs spot. I also think general managers saw him in the playoffs last season and would be willing to pay more for him than De Haan if it comes to deadline selling.

Habs have had success with Chiarot and know exactly what they're getting, they don't know what they're getting in DeHaan. Both guys are pretty similar so I don't see the point of the trade from the Habs perspective. Either they keep Chiarot for a playoff run or they trade him for picks and a retool.

He may have not started the season great but then again neither has any of the Habs so I don't see a change of scenery needed.

I appreciate both your thoughts. To me, you're both very knowledgeable and considerate contributors here. Thanks!

It’s a fair take on goalies. But Blomqvist was the 3rd goalie drafted in last years draft. And 3rd-4th preranked, depending on the rankings. Behind just Yaroslav Askarov and Drew Commesso.

It’s very true it’s hard to predict goalies. But usually the top 3-5 in each draft have the potential, traits, assets to become an NHL goalie. You have a really good chance in drafting a top 3-5 goalie.

Saying that, I would do it if was my choice. And mainly because of Clang, not because I would be happy with trading Blomqvist.

It’s just although, Clang is a bit smaller than Blomqvist and less athletic, Clang won the MVP in his Swedish Juniors league last season. On a last place team. Not only is it impressive to win league MVP as a goalie. But on a last place team is unheard of. And not that Blomqvist had a bad year either, he was terrific too.
(**and Calle Clang has a great onomatopoeia for his last name).

And the Pens were gonna take Clang with the 2nd round pick. It was between Blomqvist and Clang. And when Clang was still available in the 3rd round, the Pens jumped at the chance of drafting both. I think it was GMJR plan to trade one at some point too.

And saying all that, I don’t think Strome is a Hextall/Burke type player. Although I would do the trade on upside and the fact he helps the NHL team right now; while the organization wants to give Sid, Geno and Letang another cup run.
