Is Hertls extension in place prior to the trade or no? Either way, I don’t see this being enough for Hertl especially with that retention.

with this retention and an extension the cost is much higher sorry to say. It will take Newhook.

I think thats part of it but they also want him to get some AHL time to increase his confidence

No Newhook no Hertl deal (Unless Avs are the only team he will accept a trade to)

I dont see it. What other team is there that will drive up the price to a Newhook level prospect? BOS has nobody of that caliber and VGK has Krebs but wont move him for Eichel so presumably they wont move him for Hertl. Not sure what other teams will be in on him but those teams and COL are the first ones that come to mind for me

It will easily happen if all playoff teams can make an offer. This is what you get if you dont have many options.

Hertl will easily be the best rental on the market in years, and you know how desperate teams get.

Vegas can offer Brisson and picks, Boston doesn’t have much to offer, NYR have a ton to offer, Minnesota has Marat K and picks, if Carolina wants in they have a ton of prospects. There could be plenty of suitors, also depends on how the season plays out.

basically every contender will tender an offer for Hertl at the TDL and Wilson isn't letting his most popular and best player go for a couple pennies and a nickel. Hertl does it all and does it very well and picks it up in the playoffs. With retention and a possible extension, it's going to be expensive and someone will pay it.

All playoff teams can make an offer but Hertl's NTC can narrow that down to 3 teams real quick. At the end of the day if SJS doesnt think Hertl will extend with them they will move him for the best offer at the deadline. What other prospect would another team offer that rivals Newhook? If there is none then theres no reason for COL to include him and SJS will still move him for the best offer

I admit Brisson and Khusnutdinov are good, not sure if theyre on the same level as Newhook, but Brissons off to a good start this year. I think Olausson/Barron/etc are similar in terms of value to those guys though.

Hertl can still narrow the teams down to 3 with his NTC, so some of those teams may not even be in the conversation

He has a NTC with a 3 team trade list. Depends on how he wants to use that but it could significantly reduce the trade market for him like it did with Hall last year

Also how is a 1st round prospect and a 1st + 3rd = a couple pennies and a nickel?

Brisson is special because he is Bordeleau's linemate in Michigan and they have excellent chemistry.

He was a late first. If not Newhook then Byram and a 1st.

That could be a good option then. Depends on if VGK is willing to move him and what they would add but I think hes similar to Olausson in value. Maybe Olausson+ to make up for that. Also depends on the trade list and everything

So? Brisson was too

The whole point of getting Brisson is because of his chemistry with Bordeleau, its mind blowing how good they are together.

Just watch them at the WJC, they are doing something every single shift.

Hertl's remaining cap hit at the TDL is just over $1M so 50% retention is about $500K.
