A few days ago I would have thought this wasn’t enough, but not fox has his comparable, and this seems about right

The comps:
McAvoy: 9.5M X 8....UFA @ 32yo
Makar: 9.0M X 6...UFA @ 28yo

Question comes down to what Fox wants- max money now or a little less now with the possibility of an even bigger payday to finish out his career?
The only thing we do know about Fox is his desire to play for NYR a few years back...I'm guessing that hasn't changed- but $$ and associated risk does have a way of skewing one's value set.

My guess is the Rangers are going to meet Fox wherever he wants...the difference will come down to Fox's desire to contend for the Cup...if he goes for the big contract now- NYR will do that...but that will put lots of pressure on the CAP structure- possibly forcing them to move someone they really don't want to move...which may prevent them from being a Cup contender.

But with a player like Fox do you really take a chance and piss him off? He won the Norris Trophy in his 2nd season don't insult him by offering him a bridge deal.

I don't get why Bridge deals would be insulting? Offer him a 2 or 3 year deal with a 9.5 million dollar QO for the next contract.

Makar, Heiskanen and McAvoy none of these guys got bridged and I'm assuming Fox is just as good or better than them. There are quite a few forwards who went from ELC to big deals and it's happening a lot recently. So you offer Fox a bridge maybe it doesn't offend him but he could think why he didn't get a big deal. I wouldn't take the chance wit Fox. Offering him $9.5M on a bridge he will be tied with McAvoy as the 3rd highest paid defenseman behind Karlsson and Doughty. So if you're going to give him $9.5M anyway why wouldn't you lock him down long term.

Pus look at the RFAs that NYR is going to have to resign over the next 2-3 years. Fox is the best player on the Rangers so why in the world would would you want to expose him when money is going to be even tighter. Bridging Fox just doesn't make sense from any angle.

My only argument is you get to have him for more than 8 more years
