Combining two trades I pulled outta my arse

Description
Sorry Sharks fans. I know you're probably sick of Hertl trades that don't include a top prospect. This is about what I think Joe offers though. Maybe SJ gets more elsewhere. They very well might. There is enough to say it's possible they won't though, so I'm going for it.

I'm being optimistic on Kravtsov being in the lineup. It's more likely that he spends a year in the AHL and hopefully cracks the roster next season. I like this trade though.
Trades
1.
COL
  1. Hertl, Tomas ($1,000,000 retained)
SJS
  1. Helleson, Drew [Reserve List]
  2. Olausson, Oskar
  3. 2023 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Olausson looked very good in preseason, and Helleson has been on an upward trajectory since being drafted. I don't underappreciate Hertl, but I also think it will be tough for SJ to get a top prospect like Newhook due to his trade protection. Obviously this is only in the instance where he doesn't sign with the Sharks and their hand is forced.

No retention needed, as deal is made at the deadline. However, I put some in just so it doesn't look like the Avs are over the cap.
2.
NYR
  1. Kaut, Martin
  2. 2022 5th round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
Two players that have fallen out of favor with their clubs. I think both could provide a better fit if they swap place. Avs add since Kravtsov has the higher ceiling.
3.
COL
  1. 2022 5th round pick (NJD)
BUF
  1. Compher, J.T.
Additional Details:
Mainly a cap dump that is done so they can fit Hertl, but Compher is a decent bottom six player with leadership intangibles that could be prety beneficial to Buffalo. They have the cap space and get him for cheap.

If all this were to happen, do you realize just how screwed you would be cap wise next year? Avs already have more than enough contracts to take care of for next year, so adding another big one in Hertl makes your problem worse. Avs also have to start working on a Mackinnon extension as well. Players that most likely would not be able to be brought back would be Kadri, Francouz, and a couple of your current scratches. Plus, until Erik Johnson comes off the books, cap will be really tight. Luckily, he comes off when Mac is due.

That’s not short changing for Hertl. Olausson (a recent 1st) is killing it in Barrie and looks like a solid top 6 scoring winger. Helleson is destroying at BC, and imo is a future 2nd pairing guy. Throw in the first and that is VERY solid offer. Personally I wouldn’t do it, I’d go someone cheaper and then target Hertl in FA.

No need to send a 5th for that Kravtsov swap, though I wonder if the Rangers would be more interested in Bowers as a center.

And ah yes, for the bajillion he time, Compher is not a cap dump. Ffs MacDermid got the Kings a 4th. Compher is the kind of guy that would really help a fringe playoff team.

Don't need Bowers with Barron in the pipeline

Either Kadri or Burakovsky would be gone, but no other significant losses.

Yeah I think it's a reasonable offer for Hertl if OO keeps it up. I also wouldn't be shocked if another team beat it though, especially if SJ retains.

On Compher, he's only considered a dump in the description here because of the need to move salary. As I stated above, he's a decent bottom six player. His is the contract I'd move in order to add a Hertl though. Simple as that. MacDermid makes peanuts. That helped his value. Teams that can take on JT's salary are limited. That's why he'd likely bring similar or perhaps even less (imo).

On Kaut vs Kravtsov, maybe but it's just a fifth so I'd personally be willing to add if it helps get it done. I would prefer the higher ceiling player in him vs the higher floor guy in Kaut (that's how I view them anyway).

Well, Hertl has a 3 team trade list so it would have to be from a team he's willing to go to so he holds a lot of cards in this situation.
