Eichel to Detroit

Created by: Duggysdanglers
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 17, 2021
Published: Oct. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Gets done at the Draft. Wings pick should be top ten if not top five. Yzerman likely does not trade the pick if it’s 1-3. After that he might be open to the trade. It’s tough because it’s within the division but not to a rival like Boston.

I like that trade, seems pretty realistic.

Wouldn’t sign both Rielly and Klingberg to those big contracts though, feels like an accident waiting to happen

Raymond or Seider would probably need to be the centerpiece.

Red Wings should steer clear if so.

I’d sign at least one of those two.

Yeah, that’s why I said I wouldn’t sign both. Rielly could be a good move to shore up the left side, but based on the market for defensemen 9 mil may be a tad expensive. The highest I’d be willing to go is 8.5 million, but the high price is more of a problem with free agency as a whole anyway. Klingberg is a little too old to be throwing a full term contract to IMO, seeing as he’d be nearly 37 by the end of the deal.

Looking at the deals thrown at Makar, Pietrangelo, Hamilton, Jones, etc. He’s likely worth $8 m. But as you wrote … free agency. Might have to encourage him to join a rebuild.

I think they’ll be in on Eichel and they’re one of a few teams with the pieces to do it.
I also think they’ll be in on a UFA D like Morgan Reilly. I’m pretty sure he hits UFA.

I hope they do I think whoever"wins " the Eichel sweepstakes will wind up regretting it personally. Yzerman isn't a big free agent guy he believes in drafting and developing players

You could be right. Depends on how patient they want to be. If teams like Detroit pass on Eichel then that pkg really gets reduced for the Sabres.

I hope he decides to go"all in" because I think if he doesn't he'll be better for a lot longer going All in winds up screwing Detroit in the end.

Yeah, it’s still a little risky to sign Rielly long term but I can see him providing positive value for the first five years and falling off by age 33, which is a reality teams usually just have to accept when signing free agents. Not recommending to sign him in free agency, but wouldn’t be opposed for the right price.
