Depth C and upgrade 7th D with old face

Created by: Billy739
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 17, 2021
Published: Oct. 17, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
With all IR returned excluding Weber we're 701k over cap so we'd have to waive Belzile or Brook limiting the roster to 22 until an injury inevitably happens.(likely will happen before Byron returns as we always have atleast 2 on IR at Christmas break)

Drouin-Dvorak-Anderson
Toffoli-Suzuki-Caufield
Hoffman-Evans-Gallagher
Byron-Sissons-Armia
Perrault

Edmundston-Petry
Chiarot-Wideman
Romanov-Savard
Benn

Price
Allen

We get help winning faceoffs so we can stop chasing the play.
Even with Benn upgrade our D is still rough without a Weber replacement
We need to start winning faceoffs to give our D a chance and our netminders a break.
Plus it might solve our offense issue as our only goals have been beside Dvorak 2/3 times our best Center and only center to win over 50% with 58% himself.

Ideally we should still upgrade Wideman on RD but running Benn/Wideman works.
It gives us a Mobile and DFD option to swap in and out
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Sissons, Colton
Additional Details:
MTL gets the 4th line Center it needs to anchor them.
(Byron)Perrault-Sissons-Armia can be a powerful line for MTL that could contribute more then Armia-Staal-Perry did in the post season.

Worth the pick for MTL as it helps Dvorak carry the faceoff load sheltering Suzuki and Evans a bit more.(they wont take DZ FO)
NSH
  1. Lehkonen, Artturi
  2. Poehling, Ryan
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (MTL)
  4. 2022 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
-Lehkonen for cap purposes(NSH can use him or flip him he's still a RFA)
-Poehling is a B+ Prospect who at best can become a 3rd/4th line Center at worst might be a AHL Call Up
-2nd round pick is Conditional = If MTL makes ECF with Scissons playing 50% or more games then this pick becomes a 1st in 2023
-3rd round pick is Conditional = NSH gets the better of MTL 3 picks in the 3rd round.
2.
MTL
  1. Benn, Jordie
Additional Details:
Jo Benn since leaving has played the 7th D role like Kulak more often then not and only MIN hasnt played year. He fits our system but most important has played big minutes beside Petry in the past with Weber out.

He's an upgrade as a 7th D overall but we're trading Mobility for DFD who's an anchor on the blue line. Less production but those around him succeed more and he's capable of playing a lot more minutes then Kulak
MIN
  1. Kulak, Brett
  2. 2022 4th round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
For what MIN is using Benn for they can use Kulak.
He offers them a 2nd PP option and some additional speed

If Jordie Benn is your 1LD, you’re doing something wrong

Sissons is the center on NSH's only consistently good line since Hynes took over, and I'm not eager to trade him. Still, it's enough of an overpay that I wouldn't think twice about taking that offer.

There's not much difference between Lehkonen and Sissons aside from the ability to play center. Adding Poehling to that shouldn't be an option.

Also why are we adding in a Kulak-Benn swap? Kulak is miles better and younger.

Sold to MN. No take backs.

There is a reason Benn is in the pressbox and Merrill is on the ice for MN, and it's not cause Merrill is good...

Which on a team struggling at Center means a lot . . SMH
Especially given his Faceoff Win rate and consistentcy Physically.

Poehing has no NHL upside its his attitude not his skill thats lacking.
Like Ho-Sang there is no fixing that period

Kulak was a scratch in favor of Gustafsson and Merril for a reason
Over 17 minutes he's a turnover machine that only had 1 point last season
Any success he had was under 17 minutes in a minor role

Jo Benn played Big Minutes behind Weber with Petry for years
His chemistry with Petry is the entire point here as it makes him able to play outside 3rd pair /7thD
Unlike Kulak he has had success playing at that level where as Kulak is a consummate Disappointment

That's the reason we need him
His consistency are probably the league best 4th line Center for atleast 3-4 years at just age 27
He's got minimum 3-5 good years left before he becomes a role player/depth guy beat up by injuries

I'd take Duchene but overall Sissons is Physical and that's the role we're trying to fill long term on 4th
Duchene complicates things to much for Dvorak/Suzuki/Evans

There's a reason why Merril was on ice and Kulak was scratched in the playoffs.
Benn has chemistry with Petry and IF you could read you'd see its a band aid fix until Edmundston is back
Having a 7th D who can play on any pair short term is a big bonus.

Kulak is incapable

The 4th round pick is the value in the trade. Kulak is at leas a small upgrade over Benn, so that is a bonus too.
