My take on Eichel without retention the year after that

Description
Just want to see how the dominos would need to fall. I don't think it works for either side, as the Avs can't give up their cheap, young, NHL ready talent (i.e. Byram or Newhook) if taking on the entire 10M. That's likely a deal breaker for Buffalo.

If it did happen though, then basically MacKinnon would need to truly "take less," one of Toews or Girard will need to be moved after a couple years, the team needs to get their other guys (Byram, Newhook, Jost, Nichushkin, etc.) on reasonable deals, and the cap needs to rise.

Colorado either needs retention or I don't think they can do this.

Wouldn't be a trade without Newhook and likely Barron as well.

That's essentially what I say in my second sentence of the team explanation. But if Buffalo won't retain, then Colorado won't give up their sure bet guys (Barron being the possible exception). Both sides walk away. If retention is on the table, things could be different.

I think that is close enough for Jack.
I would prefer 2022 picks but 2 RW and a RHD prospect who could be ready in a couple of years makes up for having to wait for the picks to develop.
