Description
Ok, hear me out.
So, first, canucks need their own 3rd rounder back in order to offer sheet foote. I do not think that tampa will have the cap flexibility to keep him over a 3rd rounder.

Next, most Miller trades are to toronto for roughly this package.

Larsson will be 30 and pearson will be 32, both will be role players, I cant see SEA in the playoffs in 2 years so they are down to get out of larsson.

Here is where I will get some hate. Jake Guentzel. I think that Pittsburg is on their way to a rebuild. guentzel will be a pending UFA so they will offload him at the TDL for a 1st and a 4th and cap equivalent. Please dont attack me, this is in 2 years time.

Finally the canucks get some vets at a low cost to get the 3rd line rounded out.

Please let me know your thoughts

Thanks.

Guentzel/Sid/Rust(resigns for 5.5M)
Poulin/Geno(resigns for 7.5M-8.5M for 2seasons)/Kappy
OConnor/Zohorna/Legare
Heinen/Blueger/McGinn

Dumoulin/Letang(resigns for 7M for 3-4 years))
Pettersson/Marino
PO-J/Friedman or Ruhwedel

And that’s with no Zucker(who only has 1 year left on his deal after this season). No Matheson, no ZAR, Jeff Carter retiring.

And Pens still have all of their top picks for the next 3 seasons.

Doesn’t seem like the time to do a full rebuild to me.

So you signed a guy to an 8 year extension, then instantly traded him?

I sincerely hope you don’t think those trades are anywhere near equal.

I also don’t think you put much thought into the other teams’ needs or wants.

Guentzel would be a rental in this scenario. But is signed till the 24-25 season. Miller would be an UFA. Not even have any years left on his contract.

And Guentzel is over a PPG the last 3 seasons. Miller didn’t even score 20 goals last season. Ya, Most every GM in the NHL takes Guentzel over JT Miller.

This is a 23-24 season projection. So much can change in 2-3 years. Makes no sense to even try and look this far.

I originally commented thinking it was for next season.

Pretty easy solution here to make things more realistic:

Don’t trade miller, don’t trade for guesntzel, don’t sign ROR or Kessel to super unrealistic deals, Don’t OS Foote.

I doubt Seattle goes for that Pearson-Larsson swap but if they did it would give the Canucks a decent right side and they would still be easily cap compliant

that was more a place holder, I coulda done a better job of showing my thinking. it was more Miller off to TOR on a contract that was not expiring.
