For a Rental Player that Will get a big contract from a different team... I may be underpaying but we have seen players get traded for less (Taylor Hall)

ACGM at it finest

Hall also went for way more, that is not a good argument. Just because he wont resign with Tampa doesnt mean that he wont resign with another team that is willing to give a better offer

Taylor Hall was having a terrible season in Buffalo, and went for significantly more the year prior despite injury troubles (not to mention that the Arizona trade was considered an underpay at the time). Gaudreau doesn’t have injury troubles and is better than Hall was in 2019, so you start with that trade and work up. Hall back then fetched 5 pieces. Add 3 prospects (in your case it would probably be like Duke, Alnefelt, and Finley) and make the 3rd conditional with potential to become a 1st (likely based on playoff round wins because you can’t make picks conditional on resigning anymore, maybe 1 round won it becomes a 2nd, 3 rounds won it becomes a 1st) and then you have close to the same deal. That’s the baseline comparable, then you can decide how to improve the offer because Gaudreau is a better player, that was considered an underpay for Hall, there would likely be more interest in Gaudreau (and Treliving is actually pretty good at extracting at least fair value, usually more, in trades), and Tampa’s picks carry less value than Arizona’s picks. I’d recommend trying to find a way to work at least one of Foote or Joseph in there.

Tampa Bay isn't trading off the roster and says no thanks
