Pegulas should realize this COL Trade

Created by: gpmack95

Initial Creation Date: Oct. 19, 2021

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If they want the max return on a elite player with a ? over his head with this injury, they should work with the other teams by retaining. Other teams, such as the Maple Leafs with Kessel, retained money to get a bigger return. Yes, it's going to suck eating money for the next four years, but Okposo will be done in two and using Jack's money will help BUF stay at the floor.

Btw, I believe TOR retained Kessel's deal for 6 years (from 2015-16-current)

Interesting, the big pill to swallow is 3.5mil retained for 5 years...I just cant see it. While eichel's value is lowered by injury, I just cant see FIVE year retention, especially not at 3.5mil

And if BUF were to swing Kadri with half his salary retained, they get way more than that. Maybe a good prospect (abramov?) and a 1st and more? Old man Foligno got a 1st and more and retention of 2mil is more than a late 3rd 2 years away.

And as a final thought, TOR cant even afford that under the cap.

Seems low given retention tbh

Barron and Asplund aren't *that* different ultimately

Only 8 picks apart tho barron in a better draft 😕

The Kessel retention was 18% and that's the biggest long term retention trade I can recall, the Sabres won't retain 35% if anything at all.

Also if it's a 3-way trade then the Sabres have to get something much better then Engvall and a 3rd for Kadri.. Lol

If I am retaining 17.5 million dollars in a nearly flat cap world I better do better than 1 single conditional first

i also better not have to add

and if you act like kadri is a good asset in this trade try giving buffalo something of actual value for having him be a big part of the trade and then eating half his money.

all around brutal

The Kadri trade wasn't the main idea of this-- they definitely can get more. Question is, would COL be better off trading Kadri themselves and using those assets? or Sending him to BUF and let them deal him?

Obviously the return on Kadri would need to be sorted before the Eichel trade happens. It would be a classic 3-way trade. Also Englund + 3rd isn't anywhere close to fair value for Kadri.
