No thanks for Meier
Kuokkanen and Meier has similar production last year
Adding 3 prospects and 2 high picks on top of that is a big no

Meier won't get traded until teams can negotiate an extension that doesn't involve that $10m QO. Or if they do, they're trading under the assumption that he can just walk in 2 years. Either way, that's giving up way too much.

He's already making 10 mil so if the 10 mil extension is too much so is the trade. The QO is 10 mil in BASE salary not AAV, so it's not 10 mil against the cap. Why do I always have to explain this. He's going to have a resurgent year I think so we're happy to keep him unless the offer is really good

The $10 million base salary is for 2022-23. You are correct in that it is only $6 million that year.

But the QO would be for the 2023-24 season and would be equivalent to a 1-year, $10 million deal. So it would be $10 million in salary and $10 million in AAV (meaning the whole $10 million counts against the cap).

Devils don’t consider that trade. Maybe two of those pieces, certainly not 6.

Yes, it does.

AAV is calculated using average $ per annum (total $ divided by years). A qualifying offer is treated the same as a 1-year deal. So any 1-year deal would have salary = AVV.

One 4-year deal: $24m, 4 years ($24m / 4 = $6m AAV)
2019-20: $4m salary & bonus, $6m AAV
2020-21: $4m salary & bonus, $6m AAV
2021-22: $6m salary & bonus, $6m AAV
2022-23: $10m salary & bonus, $6m AAV

One 1-year deal: $10m, 1 year ($10m / 1 = $10m AAV) <-- Qualifying Offer
2023-24: $10m salary & bonus, $10m AAV
