How does JBB handle this

Created by: Jukinators
Team: 2021-22 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 19, 2021
Published: Oct. 19, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tampa is in a tough spot here as having perry on the first line is not ideal, but kucherov isn’t gonna be out long enough to squire someone with a huge cap hit as people have been suggesting. So the question is how will they handle this
Trades
1.
TBL
  1. Eichel, Jack ($2,000,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Ik Buffalo doesn’t wanna retain but if Tampa is gonna get eichel they can’t afford 10 million dollars worth of him
BUF
  1. Cirelli, Anthony
  2. Goncalves, Gage
  3. Killorn, Alex
  4. 2022 1st round pick (TBL)
  5. 2024 2nd round pick (TBL)
Additional Details:
Tampa is gonna have to send a lot to get eichel none the less to get retention. Buffalo has said they want young prospects (cirelli and gage) but also a developed roster player (killorn). Also no other team is gonna retain as he still has 5 years left so that’s out of the question
2.
TBL
  1. Kempe, Adrian ($1,000,000 retained)
LAK
  1. 2024 1st round pick (TBL)
  2. 2024 3rd round pick (TBL)

If BUF is retaining 10 Mil you're gonna be adding at least 2 more firsts

I can't see that being a package that entices Buffalo at all.

And the Kings certainly aren't sending out a top 6 player for draft picks 3 drafts out.

Cirelli is a young 24 year old foward which should be exactly what Buffalo is looking for

Yea, buffalo said they where looking for you NHLers and prospects not prospects and developed roster players. Killorn holds 0 value in an Eichel trade.

As much as it isn;t going to be BUF and Eichel, I cant see TB moving Cirelli AND 2 1sts and 2 2nds, you are creating a huge problem in the future where you'll need some ELC and youth. I mean look at those draft picks! Youre kind of killing the youth system for 2023-2026 and you're not even looking at deadline deals or possibly other injuries.

I think they might have to go another way, and maybe move a dman to fix the offense. But then some of the dmen are too expensive for most.

Wouldn;t a Cernak, RD 2.95mil bring back a top 6 winger who is cost controlled and young?

I mean these are rough ideas, and PHI has Ellis and Ristolenin but wouldn;t a Cernak for Koneckny type deal be better for TB than gutting the system. Or a cirelli and cernak to TOR for Nylander and Holl.

Or TB makes a few small moves and just takes their lumps until Kucherov returns?

God hopefully it's not anything close to this TB doesn't need want or able to afford Eichel cap hit The Kings trade is doable I really don't see TB trading off the active roster.

This is what I was looking for this armchair gm wasn’t supposed to be made serious I was just wondering Tampa’s option, however there aren’t a lot of coast controlled fowards around anymore besides the ones on elf’s. Thank you for actually reading the description

I would agree that Killorn doesn't have a ton of value, but he's a good player and has plenty of flippable value. If you retain 1/2 at the deadline he could probably get a 1st. At absolute worst a 2nd+.

Then again both teams decline, so it doesn't really matter

Way too much for eichel. Sabers refuse to disclose his medical records so no team should even try trading until they are disclosed but either way this trade does way more bad for tampa than good

Killorn doesn't waive for Buffalo so the discussion ends there. Really it's really not cap compliant, and what happens next season with Point and his 3m raise.

I mean its not, but to each their own. Sabres gave eichels agent permission to facilitate a trade by releasing records weeks ago.

Tampa’s cap issues are not buffalo’s problem. They are probably not interested in paying the price to get Jack Eichel, so it’s pretty much a moot point. Tampa needs their young and inexpensive players to finish filling out the roster because they have so many top-heavy contracts. The only difference between Tampa and Toronto is Tampa wins.

Was anyone disputing that? The structure of the roster is essentially the same. Tampa just invested their money better than Toronto did. Of course they spent a lot more, and they have the advantage of being a tax haven. 🤷‍♂️

Conversely Toronto players can make far more in endorsements than Lightning players

Sure Toronto is a major metropolitan market. But when you win your star players get a lot more endorsement money. But the average hockey fan probably can’t name more than 3 Lightning players.

The average hockey fan probably doesn’t watch that many Tampa Bay games. The only games of yours they see are national broadcasts. Tampa is a secondary metropolitan market no matter how good their team is. The Rangers are always stuffed down America’s throat even if they suck.

They are the back to back Stanley Cup champs meaning they the last 2 seasons were the only game in town

You mean the only game in Tampa? Which isn’t even accurate because the Bucs just won the Super Bowl. Try asking a hockey fan in Nashville to name players on the Tampa Bay Lightning. Most fans really only watch one team, and if your team isn’t a division rival they don’t spend a lot of time familiarizing themselves with your roster.

The most important distinction here is average hockey fan versus avid hockey fan. The average hockey fan doesn’t watch most games if their team is not playing. They don’t spend money on hockey video games they might play and otherwise learn about other teams’ players. They are the people who post “who?“ on Twitter every time their team makes a trade for a player they aren’t familiar with, which is just about everybody who doesn’t play for their own team. Are there more avid hockey fans than average ones? in Canada yes, and in places where they grew up watching and playing the game. Not in the United States as a whole at least, not yet. It’s beginning to change though.

No I don't. the average hockey fan doesn't watch the conference finals and Stanley Cup? Really ? That's a ludicrous statement. Couldn't disagree with you more!!
Even most mon hockey fans know Kucherov if only for #1 bull****

They probably watch a handful of games, mostly not paying that much attention. I’ll bet a lot of markets have the game on but people are too busy staring at their phones. They’ll see the highlights when the game is over if they care. Maybe by the end of the series they’ve heard the names enough to say “ oh, I’ve heard that name before.“ Then before next season they’ve forgotten all of it, because they didn’t really care all that much in the first place. Why? Because it wasn’t their team playing for the Cup.
