If sandin is a top pair d man he’s not going to take 4x2.3, and if liljegren is top four, he’s not taking 950k.

Sheesh, the leafs are in a tough spot with the cap

In general I dont see Sandin making big on his first deal. I look at Välimäki's deal as the best comparable

Definitely need to focus on your goaltending before moving to a different position. Leafs don't have enough cap to resign Reilly, so he will walk, get a fat paycheck, and then disappoint another team. Probably should at least try to trade either Marner or Tavares, probably Tavares, so that they can at the very least get some cap room so that they will be able to resign upcoming RFAs, rather than trade them away for peanuts. But I don't see a Marner or Tavares trade happening so the Leafs will remain screwed.

Wouldn’t you want to lock him up first instead of waiting 🤷‍♂️
Using Bean as a contract comparison

nope

Why sign him something he aint worth. Välimäki's deal is perfect for him as both play the same role. It basically gives him a reason to work harder to get a better deal in 2 years as by then we got a good chunk of cap space. Beans deal really was not good from the start considering he took 1 more year and almost made a mill more than Välimäki

I disagree, why wait for Sandin to go off. I’m confident he will be a #1. IMO signing him to a long term deal this summer is the right play. Agree to disagree all good

They aren’t really lol. Other than Campbell who they have more than enough to sign all their other bigger free agents are RFAs whom they hold the rights for.

Plus they have a lot of expected NHL ready prospects within the next 2yrs. Niemela, Hiroven, Abramov, SDA, Amirov and more will be NHL ready.
