Yes, injuries do happen. However, someone who failed his physical and lost his captaincy is not a top 10 player, and who knows if Eichel will bounce back to his pre-injury form.

Eichel doesn't fit in Montreal without significant changes.
For better or worse, they've chosen their centers for the near future and can't afford to add another $10M down the middle. Eichel likely won't have an impact this season regardless, which would be the only impetus for making such a trade. Desperation to win now would be the motivating factor behind such a move, and Eichel doesn't address that.
