Description
This is suuuuper early to be rating these players, but I just felt like it. I'll make a new one by game 20, and we can see how much it's changed.

LW: exceeding expectations (or just playing really well)

Fox: from what I've seen, he's not just playing as well as last year, but playing better. he's playing with so much confidence and controls the game really well. undoubtedly one of our best players.
Panarin: continuing to play up to that massive contract, he's just as good as expected.
Zibanejad: looks like the right call to resign him. he's not only our best goal scorer, but his defensive game is a lot better too.
Shesterkin: I was a bit worried about that contract, but he's proved he is undoubtedly worth it. I hope we can keep him for many years to come. his calmness on the ice, and his ability to make every game winnable, so far at least, makes him a worthy heir to Henriks throne.
Kreider: he's doing exactly the job we need him to do, and hasn't really put a foot wrong yet.

C: meeting expectations or could be playing better

Lindgren is a good partner to Fox, great defensively and allows Fox to thrive offensively, has made some mistakes but they can be forgiven. Strome is a good 2C he's got good chemistry with Panarin, and is just a solid presence on the ice. Hasn't been spectacular but hasn't disappointed me. Rooney does what we need him to do, some may call him invisible, but in his situation that can be a good thing. He hasn't really been making mistakes, and has been strong on the penalty kill, not spectacular in any way but in some way the ideal 4C. Blais has been good so far, I don't know yet what potential he has, but for the most part I like what he's done. He isn't Buchnevich, but no one expected him to be Buchnevich either. Lafreniere still isn't quite meeting the expectations I have for him, but he's clearly shown he will. He'll break out this season. Miller is in the same boat, he's playing pretty well, but he should be making more of a difference on the ice. I'm not disappointed, but I'm hopeful.

RW: disappointing and should be playing better

Georgiev looked really good in his first few seasons, but that seems like a long time ago. I know he can play better, and he hasn't had a lot of ice time this season, but for the last season and a bit he's just been disappointing. Chytil isn't exactly disappointing, but after his preseason I expected him to finally have his breakout season. Unless Trouba plays like an elite defenceman, he's gonna be disappointing. If he had a 3-4 mil contract I'd be happy with how he's playing. I have to say though he is better than last season. It's far to early to discount Kakko, I don't doubt he will live up to the expectations eventually, but I just expected more seeing from how Laffy is playing, and that Kakko had significant head start. I think Nemeth can be a solid 3rd pairing defensive defenseman, but he's made too many mistakes for being the most experienced defenseman in the lineup. I don't like calling Goodrow disappointing because he's playing well, especially on the PK, and I think he can be an important part of our lineup, but that contract is just so steep. If he had a 2M deal, he'd be in the center category. REAVES HASNT BEAT UP WILSON YET :((((( WHY DO YOU THINK YOURE GETTING 1.75M FOR YOU GOON, JUST GO BEAT HIM UP. (obv a joke, he's decent)

LD: invisible on the ice

... why is this guy in the lineup? he's had like 2 good shifts so far. i guess he would look better if we didnt lose kravtsov to avoid putting him on waivers. back to the AHL.

RD: inconclusive so far

I'd be a lot that Lundkvist will play a big role for us in the future. His shot is great, he's good on the powerplay, and with a bit of time his defensive game should shine through too, but it's way too early to tell. Barron is also pretty similar. I like how he's playing so far, he's most likely going to be really good, but it's too early to tell what he'll do. I think Gauthier is underrated, I feel bad that he hasn't gotten a better chance yet.

Scratches: eh

Hajek is a career 7th defenseman, I dunno why we didn't put him on waivers and keep kravtsov. I know Gallant thinks Tinordi is good, but I just don't see it. I'm gonna be honest I barely know who McKegg is, and that doesn't really bode well.

I would argue that Kakko has looked like one of the best players out on the ice for many of the games, especially during the preseason. He has looked so comfortable with the puck on his stick on the wall and its only a matter of time until the points start to pour in. The only other one that i would say that i somewhat disagree with is goodrow. He has been nearly invisible in my opinion. Everything else is spot on. well done!

thanks, youre probably right about kakko, but we'll see when he gets back. as i said its way too early to make a performance index, so itll probably change a lot the next time i make one.

about goodrow, hes doing what the rangers need him to do. he could be playing better, but hes not invisible. the big problem is that 3.6 mil deal, youd expect him to be playing a much bigger role with a contract like that, and its just set up perfectly for disappointment.

I agree with the Goodrow doing what we got him for and think it’s a matter of time before we see him getting on the score sheet more often. As for Reaves, we expect 1 goal and 4 assists in 80 games while averaging 5 hits per game. I’d say he also is doing exactly that. Most of the guys will come around when it comes to the scoresheet. Don’t forget there’s a lot of new faces, new system and coach that needs a few weeks to iron out.

agreed. you do understand that the reaves thing was a joke though right?

but yeah as i said this is far too early, it'll change a lot in another 15-20 games.

I’ve honestly had no issues with Dryden Hunt. I’d also probably put Panarin in the center column over the left wing column

why would you put Panarin in the center column? he's been great so far. Yes he's lacking in scoring, but the rangers have only had 8 goals total this season so that can be forgiven. his overall game has been just as great as expected.

I'm not just looking at goals scored. He hasn't driven game play as substantially as I'm used to so far, but that's inevitably going to change very soon

i mean i guess, but he doesnt really have anything to prove, hes just unarguably a fantastic player, possibly our best depending on how you look at fox and zibs, so i cant really rate him anywhere other than the top.
