Changes in CGY next year

Created by: Barryblock
Team: 2022-23 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 20, 2021
Published: Oct. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Some of the values might be off (Not a CGY fan) The depth on the bottom 6 and 3rd pair is a little weak cause I don't know what prospects are gonna probably break through and fight for a spot.

The 2 2nds in the Eichel Trade can be conditionals that upgrade to 1sts? If thats allowed IDK.

1st of all Backlund probably won't be traded. Kadri didn't want to cone through trade why would he in FA? Lindholm would stay at center

Backlund is not the piece Ottawa needs in return for Brannstrom at all. He doesn't make sense as a long term fit at all.

Monohan would have to have by far the best season of his Career to warrant close to that as a rental.

Monahan has another season after so Boston would be getting a good 2C (I think last year was an anomaly) at a bit over $3mil through next year.

The thing I caught most on here is Gio at $850k. I could see him coming back to Calgary to retire but realistically he's still playing Top 4 minutes and would want at least a couple mil.

monahan would not command that price if it was next league year. i dont think the bruins would give up the 1st after the draft. and they wouldnt acquire monahan before it. i solely see monahan going to buffalo in a deal with eichel.

I like Backlund and this trade would be interesting IF Backlund wasn't 33 y/o next season.

My bad. Had it confused with the Gaudreau trade above and though it happened at the previous years deadline so that he'd be available for 2 years of playoffs. Agreed return is way too high for a single year of Monahan even retained.

    CGY
    Brännström, Erik [RFA Rights]
    2023 7th round pick (NSH)
    OTT
    Backlund, Mikael
    2023 2nd round pick (CGY)

I wouldn't target Backlund if I were Ottawa, but if I did, I'd need a better pick to come back with him. Ottawa can raise the pick they give as well, to compensate some. For those that don't understand the logic, it's that the 2nd could be nearly anywhere in the round in 2023, whereas the 1st in 2022 can't be lower than 32nd overall.

So something like this,, at anytime during the 21/22 season, but before the 2022 draft.

    CGY
    Brännström, Erik [RFA Rights]
    2022 2nd round pick (TBL)
    OTT
    Backlund, Mikael
    2022 1st round pick (BOS)

Giodarno was just named captain of the Kraken. If he signs a dirt cheap deal it will be with them...

Tkachuk doesn't sign long term in Calgary. Monahan doesn't get nearly that return, I think it's too much for Eichel. Gaudreau doesn't sign an extension with any team.

Flyers probably need to give up more, Rubtsov is essentially worthless in this moment
