I dont think Rielly is really worth the 8, and this kills the bottom 2 lines.

Nah Reilly won’t be back unfortunately. Look at the way Kyle build the defence group. He built it for a possible Reilly departure. If Reilly leaves and you bridge Liljgren and Sandin now you have a top 6 of:

Sandin-Brodie
Muzzin-Liljgren
Dermott-Holl

That’s a pretty good top 6 as long as Sandin and Liljgren continue to develop as expected.

That core of 6 D is pretty weak, Sandin is the only one progressing. Muzzin and Brodie are decient but will start taking steps back soon with age.
Lilly, Dermott and Holl are 5-6 d man on any team. Leafs will need to repcae reilly with a bigger stay at home D man and let Sandin take over the offensive stuff.

Honestly you have your opinion, and I have mine. I think you’re really underrating and asumming Muzzin and Brodie potential regression. Usually defenceman regress around 35, and people forget when you’re defensively responsible like Muzzin and Brodie you regress a lot later.

Liljgren is a 5-6 dman now but by next year will be top 4 dman and also Holl is viewed by multiple organizations as a top 4 dman. Hence why Seattle would’ve taken him in the expansion draft if he was exposed or would’ve carried alot of value in a trade.

The Leafs don’t need dman rn nor if they lose Reilly will need to replace him immediately. The Leafs don’t need stay at home dman as that’s not how they place defence. They ain’t NYI or MTL. They play defence based off of puck pressure and forechecking. Look at the PK as a prime example. They pressure the puck carrier and force them to make a turnover and then head on the rush.

Thats every PK in the league. The Lefas Pk will change based on how the PP is run from the team they are playing. That's why they do video.
Lilly can't get in the lineup right now and you think all of a sudden he's a top 4 next year?
How do you know they were taking Holl? you don't. That's just a guess as they could have taken Kerfoot. Holl is a medicore D man and on most teams would nto be top 4.
