First of all, I want to acknowledge that I recognize that in his final days as a Los Angeles King, Martinez wasn't doing to well, and he did indeed has a resurgence to some degree since joining Vegas two seasons ago, but I still don't see how that justifies giving a 34 year old defenseman a pay raise from a $4M dollar cap hit to a $5.25M cap hit for the next three years. This is especially head scratching for me when one could make a strong argument that Martinez's numbers are benefitting from playing with Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore. Vegas is also a team that is right up against the cap, so why are they spending it on more veteran guys when they already have a sufficient number of leaders on the team
