Probably when someone gets injured. The defense looks impressive I wouldn’t change a single thing

Protas is a center prospect. Probably ends up being a solid 3c maybe 2c on a mid range team.

Nardella lead his team in points last year in the SHL also had 31p in 41gp in the Ahl the year before. Solid player

Why do only small D get labeled with pejoratives

Why not call Logan stanley types "underskilled"

His 2 on 1 against MIN recently was just brutal

A real liability in that sense, hurts the team, grimace

Meanwhile size is becoming more and more ancillary

That's a fairly respectful offer I guess

If nardella was an RFA much moreso

But Brannstrom is so good and underrated

I wasn’t really trying to say undersized is a negative thing. I would compare Nardella to Djoo who I thought was a really good Dman that isnt even in the league anymore. Unfortunately I feel Gms/ coaches look at size more than overall talent. Boxing out / hits > speed and zone entry / exits.

I see Brannstrom becoming an amazing talent soon and I would to get him before that happens lol

I like Brannstrom but I wouldn't pay that price. Protas is going to be really really really good. So underrated. And we desperately need to keep our 1st and 2nd round picks.

I think I’d pass on that return for Brannstrom. Would much rather roll the dice on him fulfilling his potential as an ‘A’ prospect in the next year or two than hope that one of three ‘B’ or ‘C’ options work out even further down the road.

I’d be willing to bet Protas easily could become/ already is an equally good impact player. Capitals are just set for C for the foreseeable future. His numbers are pretty solid and he’s a huge player. Idk why but his size alone would make him desirable. Teams / NHL love size almost more than skill

Not that draft prognosticators are everything but Corey Pronman has him in the 7th tier of the 2019 draft under ‘has a chance to play games’. I’d take my chances with Brannstrom over Protas 10 times out of 10. He’s still a b or c prospect even within Washingtons system. Nardella likely doesn’t move the needle and a 2nd from Winnipeg may as well be a 3rd.

Dorion wouldn’t trade the prized jewel from the Stone trade for a couple less valuable pieces. I’d be much more inclined to do the Barrett Hayton swap that a yotes fan posted.

Yeah he drastically improved after being drafted. His numbers the following year rivaled Cozen

I obviously don't know as much about other team prospects as Sens prospects but Protas seem to be a Sokolov version at center.

It's an interesting proposal, value is there but not sure that's pieces the Sens NEED. They should instead try to target a 1 for 1

Just to be clear, I wasn’t referencing a pre-draft article. Pronman released an article yesterday looking back at the 2019 draft class. Protas went up from 91st to 68th but is still sitting in tier 7 as a possibility of playing games right now. Production aside, Cozens went 4th in the redraft and is in the all star tier.

As a rebuilding team, sometimes you should deviate from your "masterplan" a bit, particularly when it's time to manage assets. That way you can either fructify or trade them

Rudolfs Balcers, Logan Brown, Anthony Duclair and now Erik Brannstrom had/have to be managed differently, even if the coach think they don't "fit his system". You're rebuilding, you're not going to win the Cup, it won't make much difference anyway, all it accomplishes is you lose these assets for nothing or you are forced to sell low

I don’t think he’s as good as Cozen he just had similar numbers at the same age in the same league. Those don’t always transitions to the NHL.Is Pronman The guy from the athletic? He seems to have a massive bias towards Washington. Not a big fan of him for that reason. Where did he rate McMichael in that article?

Sorry in advance for being lazy

McMichael was 12th. Had him in tier 3 as a projected top of the lineup player. There were only 7 players in tier 1 & 2 (allstars, almost allstars) and 5 in tier 3, I’d say that’s pretty high praise. He was ahead of pinto, podkolzin, newhook, york, krebs, robertson…
