The problem is that Zach jones is better than brannstrom, so the rangers would be acquiring a blocked player

you think? I think Jones is better right now but Brannstrom was way more potential

Zack Jones being better than Brannstrom is just recency bias . Brannstrom’s floor is a 40pt 2nd pairing Dman with top PP mins. That’s his FLOOR

I think you could make an argument for the opposite, or that jones is better with better potential.

Oh really? That’s his FLOOR? Then why hasn’t he played to his FLOOR? Why has he been playing significantly worse than his FLOOR?

This trade doesn't really work for Ottawa.

Our LD spots are currently full and Nemeth would be #4 or #5 on the depth chart behind Chabot, Sanderson, Holden and maybe MDZ.

DJ doesn’t seem to like him. In limited minutes he was on pace for 35pts last year with 2 PP mins while looking even better than Chabot. Also played very well in preseason and DJ still didn’t give him a spot. Says more about DJ than Brannstrom

ok, that being his "floor" is kinda ridiculous. His floor is a guy who just doesn't make the league. I do see Brannstrom eventually breaking out tho, not quite in Ottawa tho

To be fair, I’m throwing out everyone’s numbers from the north division. Those guys didn’t play against a good hockey club in the regular season.

That said, 35 point pace is all well and good, but should we go over what floor means?

It’s funny you say that when the previous year every Canadian team except Ottawa made the playoffs . And they all added players last year

Schneider, Robertson and Jones > Brannstrom. White seemed like a nice target for us but we simply can't pay him 4x 4.75m, frankly that's a gamble. Would rather Kravtsov for a high pick or elc C

That division was ridiculously weak and you know it. Freaking everyone made the playoffs the year prior with the bubble. What was it, 6 teams that didn’t make it?

Big no. Brannstrom likely doesn't get a chance on NYR, ever. In addition, Colin White makes too much money.

The laughable part is Nemeth probably blocks the trade with his ridiculous M-NTC. I think it's 8 teams he can deny a trade to. How NYR gave him a M-NTC is literally stupid. I don't understand why they did this

So what this site is just ignorant to stats now?

Or persisting in size bias while it's becoming fringe?

Unbelievable

It's so stupid that mike Smith and MAF and some others were really good in 30ish games last season and they got recognition and a Vezina etc.

Brannstrom was very arguably elite in about as many games (3.9 corsi rel and 0.8 primary pts/60) and gets sent to the AHL and his trade value is trashed

The league is a joke

But we can do better

He's very arguably better than Lundkvist

Better future than 27 year old trouba too

He's the most underrated D now it's confirmed ✔

Edit:

Naturally totally able to switch sides too

I'm sorry, but if you get sent to the AHL on the freakin' Ottawa Senators... your trade value absolutely deserves to be trashed. I don't care what your "coris rel" is

Whether he has a better future than Trouba or not, they are stuck with Trouba likely for the duration of his contract. What are they gonna do, put him on the bench?

This is also me not defending Trouba, and just playing strictly from a cap/roster space perspective. Honestly the Rangers' top 4 D is pretty much set in stone for the next 4 years at the very least in what it currently is. I don't think Mr Corsi Rel is going to up-end that

No matter who is better or has more potential, Why are the Rangers trading for a defenseman in the first place?

Rangers decline but really due to White's $4.75M cap hit. Have to pay Fox, Miller, Kakko and Laffy in short order. Also defense depth is something the Rangers have a fair amount of between Zac Jones, Matthew Robertson and Braden Schneider.
