Can we agree to this?
The trade without the retention and pick is going to be close to what the Sabres will receive for Jack.
RW, LHD, prospect and a first.
Can we also agree that the first will be very late if not the last of the first round, and that Compher does not have the value he had two year ago?
So while the trade does address the needs of the Sabres, the retention and draft pick is too much to ask.

I dont see how moving Girard helps the Avs. Hes is a solid Dman that is part of their core. Eichel is gone all season and will be on LTIR until late March at the earliest. They dont have to move significant cap inseason to make the cap work for him. The Sabres have certainly started the season on a high note, but I think they would still prefer picks and prospects over solid NHL players. So if Gerard was removed, and he is as good as all of the Colorado comments indicate, it would a significant addition.

I mean you'd have to move cap if you planned on playing next year... Who could Colorado move to make cap space?

I have seen similar comments from Sabres fans a number of times now... Sabres fans are myopic. I like all of our LHD prospects, but the key word is prospects, Gerard is a solid NHL LHD

If you can’t move a 23yr old top pairing dman on a team friendly contract for the next 5 yrs for more than a good forward prospect your GM sucks. It amazes me how people are willing to diminish the value of really good players. Girard is significantly better and cheaper than Seth Jones locked up long term and you question his value? There in lies the rub, Kevyn Adams could only get a 2nd for Taylor Hall. What do you think he could get for Gerard, a third?
