I feel like dallas would accept... I don't think they have a definitive partner for Heiskanen yet and I'm sure they would rather play him on the LD rather than the RD... Merkley might be a guy they could put with him in the future

If the sharks are going to compete again, it sure as hell isn’t with Eichel, it’s with a few years of prospect development.

No to both. Merkley is almost across the finish line and we should not give up on him. I've said this before, I'll say it again; I wouldn't even trade Eichel for Eklund 1 for 1. Eklund has too much upside and has 2 points in 2 games.

The question is is that start sustainable

The first game your beat a Vezina winner
And the second game you beat a backup goalie

Overall it’s 50/50 right now

He's 19 and fresh off his draft year. You're widely undervaluing Eklund.

What does buffalo want with couture? He has a no trade anyway.

This team also is not a contender, and they’re not even close.

Merkley would suffocate under Bowness’ system. Just like all the other offensive weapons that we have on this roster.

Well, the sabres would love eklund and a first plus the rangers 23 first. I like olofsson, but if thats the return, ya know, all the best in san jose kid. Olofsson is probably looking at short term, but im guessing he gets more than 3 million per. The problem that makes this whole thing fall apart is couture. Hes making too much money for the rangers to be interested, and the sabres arent retaining any of his contract for 6 years.

I think he has buffalo moving couture to the rangers for their 23 first. Which, i mean theres no way. They dont want an 8 million dollar contract, and we certainly arent retaining for 6 years.

Ya, no one wants couture. This whole thing is ill advised.

Merkley hasn’t cracked the NHL roster with San Jose, do you really think he would do it with Dallas? We have a way better defence and our management almost never plays young guys in the NHL. He wouldn’t bump off Hakanpaa, Sekera and Hanley, Thomas Harley hasn’t done it yet so there’s no way Merkley can, he’s worse than Harley.

Gurianov should only get moved if it’s an overpay, we’re trying to contend for a cup so selling pieces, and certainly young pieces shouldn’t be considered. Also he’s a forward that can score which makes him even more likely to keep. Switch the 2nd to a 1st and then maybe, but if not we’ll pass.

Regardless of Eichel being objectively more valuable than Eklund as we speak Eichel even by himself is just a terrible organizational fit for SJ. We’d easily rather stick with Eklund than trade away our best prospect and plenty of other valuable assets for a guy who won’t even play this year and completely destroys our cap situation long-term.

I don’t see Merkley’s attitude meshing well with the Stars play the right way or gtfo mentality. Never know. Kid is talented. But I’d want to see him play NHL games before talking about him in the same sentence as Guri
