I feel like getting ripped apart by three fan bases

Description
Okay, so this is mostly for fun. I'm not necessarily suggesting this is a great trade, and I admittedly didn't think this through enough before posting. There is some logic behind it though. Here goes:

Avs fans have been trying to get Eichel to Colorado and using Girard as one of the main pieces. In response, Sabres fans have been saying they don't want LHD in return. Meanwhile, Isles fans have been saying elsewhere that they need LHD in a bad way. I figured wtf, let's put these pieces together.

Girard has high value (imo), as he has a lot of term remaining on a very affordable contract. I threw in some pieces from the Isles but would be curious what others thought here. Take this as a starting point, as this one was tough for me and I struggled with the value.

Buffalo ends up getting very close to their four firsts asking price, with Newhook being the main prize. They also get RDH instead of LHD. Helleson is no Girard and may not have the value of a first, but he seems like a guy that could complement one of their top LHD in the near future and fill a valuable spot in their lineup.

End result of the three-way is this:

Colorado:
Out - Girard, Newhook, Helleson, Olausson
In - Eichel, Bolduc, Raty

NY
Out - Bolduc, Raty, Komarov, 1st
In - Girard

Buffalo
Out - Eichel
In - Newhook, Olausson, Helleson, 1st, Komarov

Personally, I don't see Girard getting moved any time soon, so this is probably all moot. Not sure Lou is ready to go big game hunting either, so that's two strikes. I gave it a go though and it was kinda fun.

This is a no brainer. Raty probably tops out as a solid 2C, Girard is a top pair D on a good contract

The trade is fine, i just want to know why everyone is compelled to add d prospects when its clear the Sabres dont want or need them

Obviously I like him too, but his draft position indicates we may value him higher than league FOs. I basically assigned a second round pick to his value, as I don't think anything has happened since the draft to really move the needle.

I'd be fine swapping Helleson for the 2023 2nd. I didn't think Buffalo really had much for RHD in their pipe.

I don't think it's panic time in COL (1-3 start) but they did nothing to replace Saad, Donskoi, Graves, all important pieces. With Nichushkin injuired the bottom six of (Ranta, Maltsev, Helm, Jost, O'Connor, Megna, Matteau, Kaut, and Sikura). That's not good and with Makar a -8 in his last two games, Towes is out, I don't think moving Girard would be a wise move. Who knows how long Eichel is out for.
Colorado needs better depth

Game 1: MacKinnon Toews out
Game 2: MacKinnon Toews Landeskog Nichushkin out
Game 3: Toews Landeskog Toews Nichushkin out
Game 4: Toews Nichushkin out

Important guys have been in and out of the line up the first 4 games. You are correct there is no time for panic, and the depth needs to be improved but that will happen naturally once they get guys healthy

Outside of the Washington game, they have played well to start the season, getting some bad luck, puck and injury

Yup, wasn't ripping the trade, values both sides looked fine, IMO Girard from this Dcore would not be a wise move. Agreed as the season plays out this won't be the same lineup that goes into the playoffs.

Agree that moving Girard now is a very tough pill. Passing on Eichel is too though, so it's at least worth thinking a out.

I would say that if the Avs made this move, they would need to look for another dman. Who that is, idk though. I didn't get that far.

newhook wont be in the AHL all year, they will add a guy via trade at the deadline. Start bulking up when they need to. This team is too talented to have any panic in them. I can see this very much a team who is in the middle of the pack until after the Olympics and then just turns it on getting ready for the playoffs

Agreed, with the management team and the leaders in the room, panic about a slow start (I mean it's only 4 games in) is not happening. But the bottom six defiantly needs to be addressed (which most likely will) before the playoffs.

Maltsev and Kaut fill a need, they are pretty good. What they need is a 2LW to push down the depth, especially once newhook is back up to be 3C and Jost moves down to 4C

Nuke Newhook Compher/Kaut
Helm Jost LOC/Maltsev

That starts to look a big more respectable for a bottom 6. I take a shot at ABB on waivers as a filler for that spot. Why not. He wont make it to the Avs via waivers but if htey pull a rabbit out of the hat, him in the middle 6 as a W helps that depth

Feel like Kaut has been around forever. I don't watch COL that often but be nice to see Martin given a look on the 3rd line

Hes only 22, he has been around forever bc he joined the AHL at 18 and had his ELC slide twice. That is why. They had the ability to take their time on him and make it a 5 year ELC
