Marner doesn't have that much value. You are talking about four 1st round pick for Marner? Same dude who doesn't score in playoffs, and hasn't done anything this year

I get such a kick out of the old "Marner can't play in the playoffs!!!" narrative. Y'all eat anything the boys at TSN or Sportsnet say up like it's breakfast tears of joy

Mitch Marner: 25 pts/32 playoff games=.78 ppg. (Just outside of the top 100 all time in playoff points per game).
Nick Backstrom: 108 pts/133 playoff games=.81 ppg.

It opens up 5.02M for Tor to re-sign Kessel, or sign any of Acciari, Pavelski, Radulov, Palat, Perron, Rust, Rielly Smith, or Dustin Brown. So they still get a 1RW to play with Matthews. Plus all that other stuff and a pick.

Eller would be Tor's best 3C since trading Kadri.

Hagelin could be their best checking wing since trading Brown.

Protas is a 6'5" goal scoring center prospect who did well in the KHL and AHL last year, and got a preseason goal on Ovechkin's line. Are you sure he's available? Might play very well with Amirov and Der Arguchintsev.

Plus a late 1st, I think the value is there, but casual Toronto fans won't see the value in 5.2M of cap space under a flat cap, with a great crop of UFA wings.

Is there any way the Caps can take on 5M of extra cap next summer and not lose their RFAs? I mean, I'm sure they end up calling up Alexeyev and Johansen, but can they keep their goalies, Cholowski, and Sprong, with some term, and make that trade?

I just feel like marner is just worth a bit more than that package, and there is no guarantee we can get a winger in FA

How big is the gap between Oshie and Marner? Less than this.
