That does not get you Marner by any stretch, you're also screwed when Backstrom comes back

Not saying I would do it as Leaf now because the Leafs are in win mode, but it is a reasonable trade IMO especially next summer (and the Leafs don't advance in the playoffs.)

I was thinking that. To prove it that’s why I added 2023 first 2024 second

I appreciate the attempt.

but Mitch Marner is a top player in the NHL.

he was one of I think 4 or 5 players who hit 90 points while one his ELC since like 2000, or something like that.

he’s one of the smartest players in the league. he was 4th in the entire league in scoring last year. he plays a great defensive game.
I could go on and on, but I won’t.

Marner has the same, if not more, value than Eichel.
4 Firsts. Minimum.

Yes indeed 😐

Doubling the return seems appropriate

No joke ✔

I think a good rule of thumb is "If I'm trying to acquire a star player, I'm going to have to give up things that I don't want to."

Depending on the day of the week... Marner's value (false leaf fans/ actual ones) can range from the equivalent of 4 1st round picks to Tom Wilson.

I also feel like the majority of Leafs fans actually love Marner. I'm not a Leafs fan, but he's worth every penny, IMO.

it baffles me that some "fans" HATED Marner but absolutely love Matthews. imo Marner and MAtthews are equal talents but they are treated WAY different but not my pig not my farm

I think some people just hate nice things. To be completely fair, it happens in every fan base, the difference is just that groups like the Leafs and Habs dwarf the fan bases of most other teams on here, so the Brian Burke/Don Cherry/TSN panel lovers are just far more vocal than everyone else.

With Marner, I think Marner gets a lot of flack because of the way the contract negotiations went (Same with Nylander, who, IMO is absolutely excellent, and also worth every penny). The immediate comparison is always with the Bruins-"Why do they have Pasta, Bergeron and Marchand for $19 mil, when we have Matthews, Marner and Nylander for $28ish?". Or, with a team in an income tax-less state. The salary cap really ruined a lot of fans, and turned us from hockey fans into cap analysts. Nobody should have to care about what a player makes-It's funny, but I always think back to 1997, when Joe Sakic made $17 (17!!!!) million dollars. Nobody said he wasn't worth it when he scored at below a point per game pace that year for the first time since his rookie year, because he was absolutely worth it.

tears of joy And would rank 120th all time in playoff points per game if he qualified.
Marner: 0.78 ppg in playoffs.
Backstrom: 0.81 ppg in playoffs.
