They are terrible Sell now and retool

Created by: jpsnow13
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 19, 2021
Published: Oct. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hopefully, all the Buffalo fans asking for 5x1st for Eichel are all on my ignore list.

Based on other star trades, if healthy, he would be worth a NHLer, a high prospect, a 1st and low value assets. Injured with a possible career ending injury, value goes down, thus the conditional picks.

As time passes by, value goes down also. Eichel on a 4 year contract by the end of the season would be worth 20% less than if he was traded last spring and played this season.

MAILLOUX????? Why would any trade for him, especially as a key piece in a Eichel trade. Also, chiarot sucks and savard is way better

Not saying the Sabres should make the deal, but there were reportedly lots of teams interested to select him early in the 2nd round.

Have you seen them play?

- Zero points in 5 games. Not even close. They looked like peewees against Buffalo and SJ...
- Bottom 3 in the league for GPG, PK% and PP%.
- All the other teams In the east are over .500 (except NYI)

This is not overreacting. They just cant make the playoffs. Might as well retool, tank and protect our 1st round pick from ARZ by getting in the top 10.

LOL dude

Say what you want, Chiarot was part of a Stanley cup finalist top pairing 3 months ago.

We see Chiarot and Savard play on the same team. Nobody in their right mind would say Savard is better. (even if everybody sucks right now..).

And, putting a swedish fine aside, Mailloux is a top prospect.

Straight to ignore list.

RHD, 6'3", 214 lbs. Fast skater. Very good slap shot and wrist shot.

Yeah, who would want that!?! 😉

TB doesn't have the cap space
Savard after retention was barely over a million not 3.5
Montreal can't retain right now.
Kucherov isn't out for season so his hits only gone temporarily.
Savard was a needed right hand shot in like Chiarot's a lefty

The Savard's deal had a 3rd team retain 50% for a 4th round pick. I was implying it.

I get what you say about LHD vs RHD. Chiarot can play on the right side, but maybe TB looks elsewhere for a better fit. IMO another contender would still pay a 1st at TDL for him.

Thank you for your opinion based on facts.

You're correct but, Colombus had previously also retained 50% or 2.1 mil then Detroit retained 1.05 and TB paid Lashoffs minor salary and " loaned him to the Griffens

I didn't say you were overreacting. But that Eichel offer is a definite sign of not thinking straight.

Seriously?

You're offering an old one-trick pony, a guy who walked out on his team last season, a pariah (none of whom is a center, which will definitely be required by Buffalo) and two conditional draft picks that are essentially two years away. And for all that, you want the Sabres to trade Eichel to a rival. That offer doesn't even get a seat at the table.

Your expected return for a guy who might never play again is too high. 2 top 6 NHLers and a top prospect for free is a good deal, however you want to label it.

Also, Buffalo's needs for wingers and RHD is higher than for centers IMO. Also, Drouin can play center. Also, Buffalo can draft one with the first rounder.

1- I'm not a Sabres fan, dude. I have no horse in this, fully objective here.

2- Yeah, until you trade away Eichel for wingers.

3- Ha! Where did you get that idea?

4- Yes, they can draft one with the 1st... nearly two years from now. With what may or may not be a high pick. And then wait another 2-3-4 years for him to be ready. So, yes, maybe in 2025 or 2026 they might finally have a decent center from the deal. Not a great sales pitch, if I'm being honest.

First of all, you got Skinner and Hinostroza as first line wingers 🤣, so Hoffman and Drouin would be immediate help.

Secondly, when half the league is on LTIR, money need to go the other way... except if you are CLB or Anaheim.

Cozens, Mittlestadt, Thompson, Asplund, Ruotsalainen.

Again, they dont need a center.

Have you read my message? We don't need Hoffman and Drouin as we are rebuilding. This will not be Jack's main part. I'm sure we are ready to take cap dump, but we also need prospects and picks, not Hoffman and Drouin. Try to look at the return that Adams was asking from Vegas: Krebs + Smith + Hague + 1st. Now Adams will wait a couple more weeks until some of the teams that started the season badly will start making some moves and maybe then get the right package. Or if this does not happen, he can do nothing.

So glad to hear that you are okay. I hope nobody in your family has any lasting long-term effects from the virus. I am lucky because both the government's protective actions and the social environment in which I live here in California have kept me and my family and friends safe -- I do not even know of anyone who contracted COVID over the last two years. May good health follow you and yours from here on.

First of all, you got Skinner and Hinostroza as first line wingers 🤣, so Hoffman and Drouin would be immediate help.... But they are both LH while Skinner and Olofsson are doing well this year and have the same number of goals and one more pt than Drouin and Hoffman.
Let's look at the value of your trade.
Hoffman was with round 7 pick in the 2018 draft to Florida Panthers for round 4 pick in the 2018 draft, round 5 pick in the 2018 draft and round 2 pick in the 2019 draft. He was traded by Ottawa to the Sharks for even less than 2nd, 4rh, 5th and 7th.
Drouin is a bit of a project right now, it is hard to value him now. Considering his previous two seasons, he could return a first or he could revert to his previous two years production.
Mailloux is not even considered MTL's top RW prospect, and his value is difficult to determine as nearly all pundits gave MTL an "F" for drafting him. Why should the Sabres now take him considering his private life and that he is not playing hockey this year?
2023 2nd round pick (MTL)
2023 1st round pick (MTL)

The herniated disk injury is painful but not career ending,

While you may see value in the trade a rebuilding Sabres probably would not.
I think they would easily pass as there are no certainties.
Drouin my regress to his previous two year production, Hoffman may only have the value of 2nd and 3 lesser picks, Mailloux may never play hockey again, Jack may be prevented from playing the suggested games for reasons other than his neck (what if the Habs kept him out of action because they wanted to do poorly for better drafting reasons or to keep the two picks).
