A lot of Ifs

Team: 2022-23 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 22, 2021
Published: Oct. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
IF Rielly walks in free agency for more money Leafs can't afford, IF Buffalo tanks again this year and Dahlin wants out, Buffalo wants to continue the rebuild with prospects/picks, and have less leverage for demanding assets for players not showing up to camp. Top 4 dman with big upside, puts up good numbers on a bad team, should put up much higher numbers on the Leafs. Don't know about Spezza, if he continues to put up good numbers, could sign for another year. Free agent market for dmen is also really thin. Cup contending team in my opinion. If Campbell wins 30 games this season, I think he's entering starting goalie as a late blooming goalie (think Tim Thomas) with elite upside. Dubas looks like a GM that is good at pluging holes with value contracts when major players walk in free agency.

i absolutely love the idea of getting dahlin, but sandin would have to be a piece going back in that trade though, because Dahlin is a top 1 Dman

So, 3.5m Kerfoot fetches a second. OK then the Leafs must really be downgrading in order to sign Carter at 2.4m. If Carter is a good as Kerfoot, shouldn't he get at least 3.5m as a UFA?
With the Leafs need cost efficient ELCs, so to mean it's easy no with with Dahlin trade. Surely the Leafs could sign a UFA Dman for 6m.
Simmons and Anderson in the top 12?

Okay, name a quality ufa dman that will sign for 6 million? Carter will be 37 next year, Kerfoot is going to be 28, both can put up similar numbers. Keep in mind this is done to keep Sandin, Campbell, and aquiring Dahlin for the team.

Toronto doesnt have enough quality pieces for Buffalo to trade their franchise dman an hour away

Think you proved my point about Carter. Wouldn't Carter (and the team that traded a 2nd for Carter) just pay Carter 3m and both parties would be better off.
Leafs just can't afford to continue to trade young assets for short term benefits (3 years of Dahlin) Keep Dermot, have 4.5m in cap space and then the Leafs have Amirov, Niemeala, a first and a second.

Even if for some reason Rasmus Dahlin wanted to leave after this season, he can’t just not show up to training camp when he has an existing contract. He’s signed for the next two years after this one.

Dahlin isnt going anywhere. He stated on record multiple time that he wants to be in Buffalo. His trade value is more than what Toronto would be able to afford. Im talking 2 premium prospects, 2 1sts, 2 good roster players and thats probably undervaluing him

So they trade a #1 d man and get a forward who has not played on e game in the NHL?

How about no. Without a top prospect defenseman coming back, it is a NO.

Yeah there's no way you're getting that much from anybody. I remember I did a post about a year ago trying to aquire Ryan Suter from Minnesota for a 1st rounder, salary retained, and Liljegren. A Minnesota fan asked for a 1st, two seconds, and a top prospect. I laughed, he didn't. A year later Suter's bought out. I'm not comparing Suter to Dahlin, or saying you're delusional, but I'm saying that package is ridiculous, and every GM in the league would die gasping for breath laughing at it, you need to think your post, as do I.

I guess I am the only one who saw him mis-play the puck that led to Boston's first goal and was out of position and had to use a hook to prevent a goal which led to the Bruins PP goal.
Sure this is not enough but when is he going to start playing defense?

Everyone is wrong. But since the end of last season and in this he looks good at Granato. Moreover, Butcher played not good way and I did not understand why the referee did not record the cross-checking, there was an obvious push stick. Dahlin and Cozens are now two of our creative players in Mitts' absence, but the lack of talent and especially finishing other players was noticeable yesterday. We don't trade Dahlin.
