What If The Cap Went Up

Created by: Agent_Of_R9
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 22, 2021
Published: Oct. 22, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I'm sure you can make this type of post for every team but I feel no team was impacted more by the flat cap than Toronto. They paid all these big name forwards big money and now have little money to improve the rest of the team. Of course, the front office deserves credit for bringing in solid players at low cost, but most of these guys don't have pedigree. They are ideally fourth line/third pair players who are given a role that's over their head. It's just not stable.

Sorry, I never understand this logic. So if the cap went up 10% wouldn't all those UFAs that you signed under 81.5m cap expect another 10% more too? And the other teams would have an increased cap to spend on players too....not just the Leafs. Sorry no way the roster looks like this.

You don’t want Chucky, i love him but he’s a black hole defensively and offensively is middling

It was Brodie or Pietrangelo. Leafs wouldn't have gotten both.

Also if the cap goes up that high, Hyman is likely still a Leaf.

Galchenyuk lives in Arizona, cap up or down has nothing to do with him not being a Leaf.

I thought it was rumored that Pietrangelo wanted to sign with the Leafs 9x8.

Yeah he's got a lot of weaknesses. But he played really good for the price in Toronto.

Fair enough. Maybe they would've signed a cheaper 2RD like Demelo instead.

DeMelo re-signed with Wpg just before UFA opened.

I see. Maybe they could’ve traded for Weegar then.

Like I always say, if you have 2 elite centres, you don’t need to spend too much on wingers. They should be able to make fringe NHL players score 60 points.

Rumour was Leafs balked at giving up Dermott plus Johnsson, flat cap wasn't a factor.

Holl is a Keefe/Dubas guy, he was a Leaf last year no matter what other circumstances were happening.

Cizikas could of choosed more money elsewhere this offseason regardless the cap. He choosed to stay as an Islander by his heart. He even stated that he wanted to ”die an Islander”, so no, everyone doesn’t want to play for the Maple Leafs.

Because that's been working great for Toronto so far

Yes I know that the front office really likes Holl. IDK, he's been pretty bad this season.

It's cuz our centers are not performing up to their usual standard. Neither is Marner. If these guys figure it out, they will be a force.

I'm not saying it was the best way to go. But there's no point in suggesting if there was changes to cap, that Holl might not have been on the Leafs last year.

Agree, the front office's obsession is Holl is starting to become questioned by fans of social media as well.
