Honoring a Toews and Kane trade request

Created by: Wadejos123
Team: 2022-23 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 23, 2021
Published: Oct. 23, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hawks go down from this year, Colliton is a trainwreck, and I legitimatly don't think it's out of the realm of possibilities that these two guys requests trades this offseason. I will always be a hawks fan but man I'm lying if I say I wouldn't root for these guys to hoist lord stanley one more time

I still view this as a playoff team with the right coaching, but we don't have that. The tank for Bedard or Michkov could make some sense

Trades
1.
CHI
  1. DeBrusk, Jake [RFA Rights]
  2. Vaakanainen, Urho [RFA Rights]
  3. 2022 1st round pick (BOS)
  4. 2023 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
2nd becomes a 1st if the Bruins win the cup

Maybe this is a little overly agressive in terms of value? I truly think a half retained Kane brings in a haul from a team trying to go all in. Assume that 2022 pick is 25-32 range
BOS
  1. Kane, Patrick ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
contending East coast USA team makes the most sense for Kane imo. I see Boston, Pittsburgh, or the Rangers as potential fits. Kane probably doesn't fit the rangers timeline but if the B's want one last run is Bergy or the Pens load up to get Crosy/Malkin/Kane one more cup I could see it
2.
CHI
  1. Bourgault, Xavier [Reserve List]
  2. Kassian, Zack
  3. 2023 1st round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
assuming Kassian is still a cap dump here. The way he's played so far maybe he's not. The cap situation can be worked out somehow if he doesn't work

Adding Toews at half price without giving Broberg, Bouchard, or Holloway is a massive W for the oilers in my opinion
EDM
  1. Toews, Jonathan ($5,250,000 retained)
Additional Details:
I do think Johnny would want to reurn home to WPG, where he both gets to go home and compete for a cup. However, the Jets cap space just doesn't allow it I don't think. Toews would be a HUGE add in terms of both production and leadership to an oilers team looking to capitalize on the prime of Mcdavid and Drai
3.
CHI
  1. 2022 2nd round pick (MTL)
MTL
  1. Strome, Dylan [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
This happens at some point in 2021 season
4.
CHI
  1. Ritchie, Nick
  2. 2023 1st round pick (TOR)
  3. 2024 3rd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Ritchie for salary. Could be someone else
TOR
  1. Kubalik, Dominik [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
5x5,000,000 deal in place

He could 100% be a guy we keep, but I say if Toews and Kane ask out you go full tank. Bedard and Michkov are absolute superstars

Edmonton certainly does not need help scoring goals, or any help at center. If any assets are spent, it will be on a top4 defenceman and/or a 1A/1B goalie.

I was going to think up a more clever way of saying oilers decline but that’s just soo far from making any sense I’m not sure what to say.

Hawks would need to retain for this year to make it even money, but I would 100% do that deal.

Edit: Didn't know if that trade was meant to be deadline or offseason.

As an islander fan a 50% retained patrick kane would be something i would 100% be interested in.

Patrick Kane, at 50%, should get more than that.
Would have to probably have an A-prospect in there, which means Lysell since it’s the only A-rated guy Boston has.

I feel like switching the teams for Kane and Toews makes more sense -- BOS could use a center and EDM could use a top 6 winger to play with either McDavid or Draisaitl (could even allow EDM to use Nuge as 3C)

I think Toews would be a great fit in Edmonton. They need to work on their defense and goaltending as well though, but he would be the perfect 2C behind McDavid. Draisaitl plays with one of them too. Other potential fits could potentially be Vegas (need a center and are going for it), Florida (Quenville connection) or Colorado (elite 2C) with darkhorse candidates being Minnesota or Dallas.

Boston's core is already aging with Marchand and Bergeron. We haven't seen what McAvoy and Pastrnak will do without them playing at a high level yet. I think any of the other teams I mentioned for Toews would also fit for Kane, but especially Florida and Colorado.

I do think Strome will end up in MTL this season, but the price might be a bit lower than a 2nd rounder.

Both trades are pure trash for the Hawks for Kane and Toews at 50% retention, Boston and Edmonton are giving up worthless scraps.

Isn’t the draft pick unprotected? So Michkov tank quest is not possible?

We have our 2023 pick. 2022 is top 2 protected. Basically only way we don't draft in 2023 is if we get wright so i'm good with that.

Bedard>Michkov>Wright, But Wright is still a stud

I wouldn't call it a fair swap. Hawks would probably ask Wahlstrom and a 1st and then be willing to take Bailey/Komarov/Hickey whatever if that's what's needed for cap purposes
