Just the 2nd should be enough. Not sure why the Rangers would want or need him though.

Theyre in dire need of a pure scorer and have a big hole on the right side.

IMO it’s enough, fits exactly in what they want to do.

Kakko is eligible to come back tomorrow for the CGY game, but they obviously wont rush him.

In hindsight, yea the Buch trade is not going as planned because of Kravtsov's hissy fit. However, Blais has surprised and impressed.

It still leaves that spot that Buch/Krav would have played open.

two very true points...and I wouldn't be against acquiring Kessel- just not for Krav + 2nd. Trading futures like that for a 34 yo, who's UFA next year would be very short sighted...it's decisions like that which generated the need for a rebuild to begin with.

Well, when you consider that worse players have cost teams a 1st round pick at the deadline for a rental, if we can get away with not trading a 1st and instead trading a former 1st round pick prospect who doesnt want to be here anymore then its worth it IMO.

Anyone like that would cost us far more than we would probably be comfortable giving up. On top of that were looking at potential contract conflicts.

Obtaining a rental only makes sense 1) if you don't look at him as a rental- but someone you want to extend or 2) As a cup contender you're going "all in". To point 1- don't think they would look to extend for numerous reasons (age, CAP hit, blocking prospects, etc). To point 2- the NYR are playoff contenders...but CUP contenders they are not....if they play their cards right that will follow...but this is the kind of deal which would really inhibit that in the years to come.

Everyone could use Kessel , he was on pace for over 60 last year and starting hot again this year ON ARIZONA .

I dont know why people have so much hate for Kessel. With the exception of his first year with ARI, his last 4 of 5 years have been pretty top notch. Put him with Panarin and Strome, I could see him getting back to those PIT numbers.

don't hate Kessel at all...just don't like this trade. A top 50ish (albeit disgruntled) prospect AND a 2nd (which figures to be in the 50s) in a deep upcoming draft is a foolish ransom to pay for someone about to go UFA- let alone at 34 yo.

Well, this was more a gauge and the consensus is its an overpay. Seems that the 2nd round pick is enough for Kessel.

A second right now sounds like the consensus...I just think AZN will do better than that- you give the examples- at TDL...just don't think their best offer will come from NYR.

Im curious what people thought Foligno would go for before Toronto traded a 1st round pick for him.

can also add Goodrow and Coleman here...in the end there will for sure be at least a few teams out there that think a sniper is the last piece to a long cup run...AZN would be smart to let that market develop then rake in a max return for Kessel.
