I don’t think it makes sense anymore. Connor Brown is crucial for us to compete. Same thing with Nick Paul. I think they both extend in Ottawa

Connor Brown would give you one of the best 2 way 3rd line guys in the league. He can put up 50 in a full season too and play in any situation . He’s as good as Coleman imo minus a bit of physicality but he makes up for it in takeaways and stuff

This makes sense for both teams if Brown has no interest in resigning

And given the minutes I truly believe you'd get very similar production from Joe. He and Bellemare have been phenomenal on PK...... Joe may be the only guy on TB as fast as Point

Problem is that his hockey sense hasn't caught up with his speed yet. He makes mistakes but it quick enough to make up for it.

I love Jo. But he's been in the league 3 years and has only just claimed a full-time spot because of a mass exodus. Despite guys bellow him in the depth chart becoming regulars.

I hope this is the year. But if he's the guy to ship out to make the lineup more formidable I'm all for it.

Are you sure because most of Brown production comes at 5 on 5 or PK... Could Joseph put up 25/25 while matching up against other teams best players?

You must have missed my answer from thursday

Time to copy/paste my Connor Brown FACTS again!

- Among Brown's 19:17 TOI/GP in Ottawa, 2:45 were on the PK and only 1:32 on the PP. His overall dZS% has been 62.6% which is extremely high. Simply put, he is mostly used as a shutdown forward or on a matchup line.

- Despite this defensive usage, he has been 61st for Even Strenght Points among NHL players since 2019-20 (not including 2021-22 yet). Look at the names around him on that list, they aren't all as good overall :

http://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?reportType=season&seasonFrom=20192020&seasonTo=20202021&gameType=2&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=evPoints&page=1&pageSize=50

Facts summary :

- He has scored at a 24 goals/50 pts pace in Ottawa (127 GP)
- He was 2nd in takeaways last season (behind Mark Stone of course)
- He received Selke votes (17th)
- Total beast on the PK : routinely gets more scoring chances than the opposition
- used heavily in a defensive deployment (34.0 oZS% vs 66.0 dZS%) but still provides good offense

His speed, non-stop motor and flawless work ethic is a beautiful thing to watch. With only a 3.6 AAV for 2 more seasons... way too valuable for Ottawa and they love him a lot. Any team who has Brown should use him in a similar way that Ottawa has been

I already read that being it is as sent toe basically and my opinion hasn't changed Joseph getting 15 mpg would get similar and is cheaper even with retention

Btw as I said earlier I was not knocking Brown I just think people on here over value certain players (Alex Barre-Boulet for example) and undervalue others( Mathieu Joseph for example)
Also don't think the difference between Joseph and Brown is a 1

ok you must be really high on Joseph... I mean Connor Brown is only 3 years older and has already done much more

You seem to think that with 3 more EV mins and 1.5 PP mins per game, Joseph would be able to :

- score at a 24 goals/50 pts pace (he barely does 50% of that)
- be around 60th for ES Pts among NHL players
- be among leaders in takeaways
- receive Selke votes

And he'd be able to do that while being used heavily in a defensive deployment (38.0 oZS% vs 62.0 dZS%) while facing top competition every night?

Do you realize how hard it is to not get destroyed defensively AND provide good offensive numbers while shutting down the opposition?

The problem here is not how good Joseph is, it is more that many people don't know yet how good Connor Brown has become.

He scored at an 18 pace last year without the minutes playing mostly with Maroon . Yes I am high on Joseph playing with Cirelli and Killorn will help a lot
