IMO the Leafs most realistic "trade" is to put him on waivers, and hope some team claims him. Leafs would have 11m to spend in new found cap.
Now I don't think it will happen this season. And please don't let Dubas be the GM spending that 11m

Toffoli + Lehkonen + Savard + Tuch + 2nd for Marner + 4th. I know Marner is worth more but this actually isn't as bad as it seems. Leafs line up when healthy

I don’t like the Marner contract. Never have. I’ve never liked the term on the Matthews contract. But god you guys. The kid has put up awesome numbers every year. People criticize his playoff performances but he still has decent numbers.

The leafs hit a hot goaltender last year. Otherwise they were well built for playoffs. They had the best team I’ve seen since 93.

Give the kid at least 20 games to get a monkey off his back. Same goes for the whole leaf team.

Fans would be more sympathetic of Marner’s slump if his attitude was better.

It’s one thing to have a couple of bad games, all players have that. It’s another thing to go out there in front of the media and pretend that your poop doesn’t stink.

Marner clearly has a lot of work to do on his game, especially in high pressure situations where he chokes.

Fans just want him to be more self-aware and put in the work to rectify the situation.

Especially since he’s being paid close to 11 million dollars!

BTW the rules surrounding cap circumvention outline that a player can not have his contract terminated then resign with the same team at a lower cap hit. It is the same thing as buying out a player then trying to resign him for less money.
