Crazy But Realistic Overhaul

Created by: leaflet
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 24, 2021
Published: Oct. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Based on some other posts. Some details could be worked out. This team is good, and the trades are good for the other teams, too.

-----
Edit: Guys, thanks a lot for the support from other fan bases, as usual. I knew I could count on you. Where is my support from Leafs fans tho?

These trades are not bad for the teams involved, to be honest. I adjusted trades to Anaheim and to Seattle, and it's more than fair.

This team is good. It can contend for 2-3 years in a row. The other teams receive assets that help them similarly. Blues with Marner would be improved a ton. He would play up to his potential in a market like that.

Tarasenko - Matthews - Nylander is the elite player line.
McCann - Tavares - Thomas would be a good fit: North American style players who are not into finesse but produce results, and reliable.
Bunting on the 3rd line: my sense is that Bunting is NHL potential. Develop him as a full NHL player there, even with shifts on the PK from time to time. He also adds scoring on that line, which needs it. He's the first to move up the lineup if there's an injury.
4th line was already great.

The defense is deep and ready to contend for 2-3 years. Each pair could play 20 minutes. Fans would love Tanev here. That's why I force things to bring him in the fold.

Gibson gives a legit starter for the playoffs, and Campbell stays for the morale.
Trades
1.
STL
  1. Marner, Mitchell
Additional Details:
Based on another ACGM post. Maybe a pick involved. Prospect could be different.
2.
CGY
  1. Dermott, Travis
  2. Holl, Justin
  3. Ritchie, Nick
Additional Details:
Holl is legit, so Flames fans shouldn't complain about value. Maybe about fit. But their defense could use 2 players for 1. And I had to piss off one fan base.
3.
TOR
  1. Gibson, John
  2. Manson, Josh ($2,050,000 retained)
ANA
  1. Liljegren, Timothy
  2. Mikheyev, Ilya
  3. Mrázek, Petr
  4. Robertson, Nicholas
  5. 2023 2nd round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:
Anaheim is rebuilding. They must think about the future, after Gibson. Robertson is a huge price for a big goalie. Add 1st rd pick Liljegren who is promising. Mikheyev wanted to leave, and could help the team when back from injury. Mrazek to give them someone reliable as rebuild continues. Maybe the pick can be adjusted to balance that trade.
4.
SEA
  1. Kerfoot, Alexander
  2. Rielly, Morgan
Additional Details:
Settling the score with Ron Francis. Kraken must think about life after Giordano. Rielly is from the West Coast. Could sign long term and become the franchise defensemen. He's worth a lot, so this trade is in Seattle's favor. Kerfoot is a good player who fits the new franchise's philosophy. Jarnkrok could come in for McCann.

You're right. My trade should have included Liljegren as another prospect to Anaheim instead of Seattle. It was just the basis for a trade. Prospects should go to Ducks.

Seattle: Rielly with contract agreement is worth both Dunn and McCann.

Rielly is not signing in Seattle. The only way and I mean the only way Seattle does this if they retain 1/2 and then ship him to a contender for a 1st.

Ducks easily pass. They have Gibson locked up long term and a decent cap hit.

No way Flames trade Tanev. He has helped Hanifin develop so much.

The Blues wouldn't even consider that. Obviously.

imagine trying to justify giving a weak 3rd pair and an overpaid bum for the literal best defensive defenseman in the league. Classic leafs fan

Those aren't the right pieces for Manson with 50% retention, for whom we'd ask for Robertson and your 2022 second. People don't seem to understand the value of Gibson's 6-year term; for him, we'd want Mrazek and two firsts (and Rodion Amirov doesn't count as one of them).
