Does a winless October cost Jeremy his job

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 24, 2021
Published: Oct. 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Looking at the next four games, which take us through the end of October, tonight seems to be the only game that we realistically have a chance of winning. This is not meant to be a slight on Detroit, but rather acknowledging the ability of the coming teams. After tonight we play Toronto, Carolina, and the Blues to close out the month. Obviously that’s not an easy schedule, and there is a real chance that we end up without a W this month. Would that failure cost JC his job or his job safe no matter what happens in the next four games. At some point you have to separate coincidence from the results, and I don’t see any way in which this start can’t be blamed on the coach.

I think the best course of action should the 0-10 record come to fruition is to immediately call up Alex Nylander and make him the first Active Player Head Coach since Charlie Burns back in the 70’s.

Also of note is the lineup for tonight’s Detroit game without Kane as he is in COVID protocol.

Crossing my fingers we break the record for longest time without a lead tonight. Colliton can add NHL record breaker to his resume! If they werent already having talks about firing Colliton then doesnt seem like its close at all.

I think it should. I've advocated on this website that I dont think Colliton is the big problem here, but hes definitely not a solution. Aside from the wallopings we got from Colorado and Pittsburgh (two of the top teams right now), our losses havent been system losses, but ones following individual mistakes. We will play good for stretches of the game, and when it seems like we are turning a corner, we have a brutal turnover or a blatant missed defensive assignment by Kane and we give up a lousy goal and all the guys mental gets ruined. As soon as we give up a goal, the fire goes out and we stand no chance. Fleury has been far from great as well which doesnt help. The players have to be better, and hopefully when Colliton gets fired they finally figure out how to play the damn game with some passion.

Leafs problems seem to be luck based from what I’ve seen. They will gorge on the hawks.

Heard on some podcast that they should go all in on the whole MURICA thing and hire Tortellini, thoughts?

Probably.

If we look at Calgary they fired their coach midway and brought in a new one

With the amount Chicago invested if they continue to underperform like this 100% there will be a new coach come November/December.

What has been the Hawks problem?
All I have seen was that first game vs NJD and they looked pretty good putting together 3rd period comeback.

I want to go all in on building a winning team. Feels like every season there's a different theme with us; one year it's get all the brothers, one year it's bring back all the old Cup guys, one year it's a """""rebuild""""

But to your point, I don't know if Torts would be what we need. I honestly feel like Colliton was doing fine until we decided to redo the entire roster, at least the guys we had could grow into the system and learn with him. But now I have no idea what this team is and what are goals are, so its so hard to see what kind of coach/system we should even have

Excuse me?

60 point Eric Gustaffson paired with Seth “Call me Norris” Jones at 9.5 million will turn this roster around. Also….No need for Nylander when Mike Hardman, John Hayden, and Kyle Baun will be the future top line this team needs.

You absolutely hit the nail on the head here. This ROSTER is loaded. On paper, this is a Third round playoff team. The problem is the mental toughness. They are all in their own heads. Patrick Kane, my favorite player by far, has been god awful this year. Seth Jones's offense is on point, but he's getting left out to dry with Fleury. He can't do everything at once. As I watch him, 3 out of 5 times, he has his man covered. He is one of the best two way defensemem in the league. He's not a bad player by any stretch of the imagination. everyone involved with the organization (players, staff, coaches, fans) are in just an awful mental state right now. They are starting to believe that they are a bad team and that each individual is doing a poor job and its hurting them. Special teams is on fire. Whoever is the special teams coach needs a raise. However, you can't play trap hockey with Kane, DeBrincat, Kubalik, and Jones. You just can't. The best defense is a good offense. They need to get rid of the players that are neutral (DeHaan, Gustafsson, Strome, Khaira, Carpenter). They don't bring good defense or good offense consistently enough. With the current roster, they need a coach that lets good offensive players play offense.

This is all a pretty fair point. I think the roster will definitely benefit from new coaching and management though. If this happened 8 years ago, they'd be pissed. Now they sound like they're going through a high school break-up. Get mad and stay mad, that's the best way to play with an edge in this league. Right now, they have no edge.

I've liked Strome in the limited minutes hes had this year, but the rest I agree with. I have to say, wasnt thrilled with the Jones trade/contract, and im still not, but hes been far from the issue since the first game. I just think this roster needs a deep cleanse. I think we could benefit from selling off some of the older guys and rebuilding around Cat, Dach, and Jones. After a couple of loaded draft classes.

I'm partial to Kaner and Tazer so I don't wanna see em go, but I would understand if they wanted to leave. Other older guys (Johnson, Fleury, etc) can be traded if possible lol

Im always 50/50 on kane and toews. If you can get a good return you probably should, but if not, theres no point. Even if you can get a good return, these are guys you wanna keep around as ambassadors, or maybe even coaches or owners at some point, so damaging relations is not ideal

You guys looked competitive only briefly against the Red Wings and never led against them. Even after the Bowman dismissal, this team still needs a shakeup in the front office, behind the bench and on the ice. I feel really sorry for fans of one of the NHL's premier franchises.
