Wasn't it claimed that Krebs was a non-starter for Vegas?

If I'm Buffalo, if Krebs is a non-starter than Eichel isn't for sale.

buffalo doesnt have the leverage in trade talks, if they could get a Krebs from a team, eichel would have been traded already. Buffalo is against the clock, not other teams

The best leverage Buffalo has it that all of it's potential buyers are scraping the cap ceiling. It's a lot harder to get a player for the bare minimum possible when doing so will put you 10 million over the cap, so you're going to have to send roster players back. Buffalo taking on contracts will likely cost extra for Vegas.

I don't think Krebs is the kind of player who should be a dealbreaker in this situation if a path to acquiring Eichel is open. Vegas is in win-now mode; a healthy Eichel in 2-3 years will get them much closer to a cup than Krebs will, and no one like Eichel will be available for quite some time.

Eichel is going to miss all the regular season on the LTIR, if he got his surgery today....its 6 weeks until he can start skating against and then 3-4 months until he is cleared. That takes him to Late March if hes on schedule.

Teams are not trading players who on their rosters now and making impacts for eichel who will miss the full season. This is why buffalo has 0 leverage, they botched his timelines to return and will miss a full calendar year ofhis career at a minimum.

Pacioretty on ltir today i believe. I dont think buffalo moves him to vegas if krebs isnt coming. Eichel is still asking the sabres to sign off on adr, which essentially is asking them for 40 million dollars, if the surgery that they dont want him to have- doesnt work. I have to imagine they didnt agree. So next up, eichel will grieve with the nhlpa, and they will get involved and run into the same problem- the cba lets the teams decide how to treat, and if the sabres let him do this, insurance can balk at covering, so they would be on the hook. At least there are 5 teams that are willing to take him if he gets adr, otherwise it would be even worse. My point is- theres really no rush, unless you are selling eichel at a deep discount, and its clear that we are not. Gonna have to get a surgery at some point, then show hes ok, then get traded. And when the nmc kicks in, he can report or not.

Me too. Its not like we are just gonna trade him to boston for an autographed rick middleton stick, just because his nmc kicks in. He has had 3 options for awhile now- get the fusion, get the adr on his own and accept the risks, get the sabres to agree to adr (which puts them possibly on the hook for 50 million)- he chose to drag his feet. They arent going to reward him when his nmc kicks in.

If the make a trade soon, he's ready for the playoffs. Pacific is wide open, I'm sure they'd be fine without Krebs and one of their various $5M wingers.

The Sabres seem perfectly fine with letting him rot away on LITR. Not sure if Vegas, Calgary, Anaheim, etc would be fine with letting a comparatively cheap 1C slip away because a future 2C was a dealbreaker.

If Krebs is supposedly untouchable for a player of Eichel's calibre then I highly doubt there is a deal to be made with Vegas. Unless they would package Dorofeyev and Brisson together and add from there
