I thought greenway was really good last year, wouldn't he be worth more than just strome?

I don’t even know anymore tbh. He shows flashes of being great, but then he’ll turn into the laziest, softest 6’6” player in the game. He’s frustrating because he has the tools.

I think Calgary would take that, I don't think there is a plan in place to bring Zadorov back next year so this move would help with cap space at the deadline and recapture a bit of what the Flames moved to get Zadorov.

Every world because Greenway is better offensively and defensively then Strome. He also is a good fit on Minnesota

He’s been noticeable, in a good way, most games this year. That’s valuable in a way the Strome just isn’t right now. I keep tying myself into knots about how to make a Strome deal work and if he wouldn’t immediately go to Evason’s dog house, but if Greener is involved there has to be another piece coming back to MIN.

I was asking which trade. There are two here and your initial comment did not specify.

Greenway for Strome isn’t terrible value. I’m not exactly jumping for joy to make it, but it’s not as ridiculous as you suggest. Greenway is struggling to establish a clear identity on the team and I wouldn’t say he’s more offensive than Strome. At worst, it’s a slight loss on value for MIN, but achieves a positional upgrade in Center.

Yea it was my bad, I forgot to say which deal

Considering Greenway is a very good 2 way winger and strome has statistically been a 3rd/4th liner for the pasat few years, it doesn't fit either description of getting value or upgrading the centre position. Minnesota is probably better of just waiting a year or 2 for Rossi and keeping greenway or finding a better centre upgrade. Strome wouldn't be a bad add for the 3rd line but I wouldn't even consider having Greenway as the primary piece

Well Greenway likely has to go regardless, due to the impending buyout cap hits. So the alternative is trading him for draft capital. Which is a fine route too. But keeping Greenway isn’t looking very likely. At least one of Zucc, Fiala or Greenway needs to go. Moving Zucc wouldn’t be easy and moving Fiala would seem like a mistake considering how well he’s played. Greenway is fairly replaceable with one of Boldy, Beckman, Hartman, Duhaime.

If the argument is don’t trade Greenway for Strome, because you’re better off trading him for draft capital....then sure, I’ve made those proposals too. Lukewarm either way. But I don’t agree that Greenway is indispensable entirely.

He was riding an inflated shooting percentage and his line mates last year

I'd rather have Greenway than Strome personally, but I'm not particularly keen on either. If we acquired a center I'd hope it's to play with Fiala. Gaudreau seems to have some decent chemistry with Fiala but ultimately I think Fiala deserves someone much more skilled offensively. Strome definitely is an offensively skilled center, but Fiala has seemed to struggle with slower centers in the past and that is Strome's Achilles heel.

Agree, I’m not especially keen on either of em myself. I think it’s probably more pragmatic to keep Greener for a bit and deal him at TDL or in the summer, but I just like exploring some bolder options with this site.

I’d like to get Fiala someone more talented as well. IMO he’s a bona fide top line wing that’s being misused out of necessity.

I think we need to stop referring to speed as the issue here. Fiala is great off the rush and the cycle. The biggest issue he faces is not having anybody to help with the cycle. Strome does that without any need for speed once the cycle starts, he’s a weapon that can play off of Fiala and Fiala can play off of him.

Speed is less important than has been discussed.
