Minnesota doesn't need a G . At all. He's not needed. Minnesota has Talbot and Kaapo. Plus Fleury has sucked. No need to have a 5-7mil backup, or even 3 mil for that matter

Fleury is the kinda guy you don't get for regular season...he's a playoff performer. And honestly, you'd be getting him for $3 mil, since you're dumping Rask in the deal. A $3 mil goalie with a track record in the playoffs? That's a pretty good deal to me for a team that has struggled at playoff time in the recent past.

You get him now, split the workload for the season with Talbot and then he's fresh for the playoffs. Plus Boldy will be back in a couple weeks and is a much better option than Rask.

That being said, if I'm CHI, I say no and wait till the deadline to see if a contender is in need of a competent playoff experienced goaltender.

Well this is fair but Kahkonen has been terrible this year. To be fair this could be a bit of an overreaction to a single game performance where the whole team (except the 4th line) was a step behind all game. But he hasn't been good since that nice stretch last year. Even the preseason he was not good. You can't ride Talbot for 70 games.

I feel like this trade would be fine considering both Fleury and Rask are on the last year of their deals. And for only a 3rd I don't think this would be bad.

Who knows though? Maybe in a month I will look back and just delete this post for how terrible it was.

PS: Blackhawks defense is terrible. I wouldn't put the majority of the blame on Fleury.

Minnesota can't just keep Kaapo on roster to be 3rd G. He's not eligible for ahl due to waivers

I get it. Minnesota d is also terrible this year due to the 5, and 6th d pair. Also Kaapo has to be exposed to waivers to be sent to ahl , or kept on team as 25, or 26th player instead of extra skater

Fair point. I didn't know that was the case.

Wrong, he is waiver exempt as he is still on his rookie deal. Not that I see them doing it at this point, but he could still be sent to Iowa if needed.

That isn't true! Waivers are based on games played. He has surpassed that

Go look at the Wild team page - it still lists him as waiver exempt. Not sure if it is different for goalies vs skaters, but if you click on that little green arrow next to him, that explains it.
