Chicago blockbuster

Description
Has anyone floated this before?

I like it because it’s an equal money, equal term deal (2@2yr vs 1@4yr). Some will probably argue Chicago adds because of the age difference, but I think it’s balanced by the large amount of salary eaten by Chicago.

IMO this adds the depth Toronto needs and gives Chicago another skilled young piece with term.

I’m probably going to get roasted for this, but tell me your thoughts.

Additional Details:
Pick to balance out the deal a bit. Maybe there’s performance conditions surrounding Toews because he’s pretty rusty at the moment. Upgrades to a 2nd or 1st if…

TOR would have to add here. But honestly its not a bad idea....

However I have to say this. We should be trying to run Mitch out of town. He actually played fine today. I think we should target someone like Pavelski and ship Holl and Engvall to Russia

this might be one of the dumbest trades ive ever seen on this website lol. 2 players x 2 year does not equal 1 player at 4 years, let alone the retention of salary, plus the fact that kane and toews bring waaaaay more to the table than a single mitch marner

Okay, maybe I went a little too far appeasing leafs fans. What do you think Toronto would have to give going the other way?

firstly ill say, I dont think theres any scenario that involves Kane and Toews being moved at this time. Maybe next year at deadline if they are truly out of it, and the guys want to chase another cup. If it were to happen, I struggle to see what the Hawks would even want back from the leafs, especially knowing how valuable 10M of retention is. Would be one of the biggest trade hauls of all time.

Yeah part of the reason I thought of this was trying to figure out what Chicago is trying to do. I was thinking Trading toews and Kane by this deadline may return the assets do a quick retool and come out the other side while Jones still has some good (ish lol) contract years left.

Again though, you are right in saying they’d need more than just Mitch Marner to pull it off.

So basically $22M in cap hit for Marner? Come on, Chicago won't take Marner's straight up cap hit let alone add to it with retention.

IDK man. I struggle with this because it's a half a$$ attempt at a rebuild. Marner is good. He's going to make sure the Hawks will never get a true shot at a top 3 pick, but they'll also be between 8 and 12 every year. It's exactly what CHI doesn't want, but it's at least interesting.

Still would cost the Hawks $23M (not $22M) for the first 2 years for Marner (and he he isn't going to not only meet Toews + Kane's production but then put up another $11M to justify hiimself) and then you have 2 years left at $11M and he's a free agent; just doesn't make sense from a financial perspective. If the Hawks had a supporting cast then maybe.
