This is definitely possible, especially of Devils don't plan on re-signing Severson. But the retention, plus Marner's AAV, means its a $13 million acquisition for 2022-23. We'd be very quickly getting to cap with Hughes, Bratt and Zacha to sign.

If this season is not our year back into the playoffs, this could be a worthwhile summer 2022 trade (as it was proposed). Boqvist and Foote are good prospects, but not guys we are counting on to be core guys. Tatar and Graves each have 1-year remaining on their contracts. And picks are both 2nd rounders. This is a yes from NJD.

I'm in the camp of the Mercer trade. None of the other deals make much sense for us but I do agree that it's a big price to pay. I would say Mercer a single season cap dump of your choosing not named Pk this year's 1st top ten protected.

A Devils fan suggested in one of these threads that NJD may be able to make Blackwood the centerpiece to acquiring Marner (was predicated on Daws maturing to NHL role, after one NHL game, mind you). Are Leafs looking to add a goalie?

Jesus this is an awful idea. Blackwood is still this teams #1 of the future.

I don't want Marner in the slightest. Small, soft playmaker that is scared to shoot and disappears in the playoffs. He is quite literally the last player NJ should be looking to trade for. Don't even get me started on the contract, hard pass all the way around.
